Our favorite holiday tradition is opening all six LEGO Advent Calendars, one day at a time, with you, our readers! Along with spoiler pics of the daily gifts, we include commentary and alternate builds to celebrate the season and creativity.
We have an all-star cast of custom minifig creators leading our Advent adventure this year. Fool’s Figures is wizarding his way through Harry Potter and Frozen calendars. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City. Now let’s open some doors and see what gifts are in store for today!
Fools: Luna Lovegood is here, not much else to say. It’s at this point that I can point out the major flaw in this year’s Harry Potter calendar; we went from 7 unique minifigures in last year’s calendar, to practically four this time.
Jake: Yeah, it’s great in a “battle pack” sense, but the variety is missed.
Fools: A simple Christmas tree with some gifts.
Expansion: This low polly tree and gift set looks like it’s hasn’t rendered yet!
Bones: Compared to the Christmas trees in the other calendars… well, this one is conceptual in its simplicity, shall we say.
Jake: No spoilers past today, or it’s the naughty list for you.
Bones: **zips up**
Jake: But you’re totally right. This is about as weak a tree entry as I’ve ever seen in a Calendar.
Fools: Extra wands + Arachnid upgrade!
Bones: An little drone for today, very similar to the one found in the Galactic Spaceship 60446. But let’s be honest, everyone knows it’s a reference to Wheatley from Portal 2.
“I’m in space.”
“I know you are, mate. Yup. We’re both in space.”
Fools: This space robot is a nice little build, super familiar to anybody with a recent space set.
Bones: A microscale Nether Portal for today! * checks notes * A way to access the Nether dimension, which, judging by the screenshots, doesn’t look like the most welcoming place… Still, this build made with brackets instead of regular bricks is really neat! Oh, and it even comes with a tiny little zombie.
Fools: The newer glittery translucent purple is perfect for a Nether Portal!
Expansion: That portal is tickling the nostalgia button in my brain. Very impressed with those proportions
“I’m in space.”
“I know you are, mate. Yup. We’re both in space.”
Bones: The little green men (literally, they’re tiny) are listening out in deep space, hoping to make sense of this strange story about a red-suited lifeform that delivers presents down chimneys.
Expansion: Just wait until those little green men hear about the Easter bunny!
Expansion: Similar to B2EMO, this buildable droid is basically perfect and very recognisable from the LEGO Star Wars games 5/5
Fools: Treadwell! One of my favorite droid designs, probably my favorite of the designs in the original trilogy.
Bones: Much nicer than the one we got back in the UCS Sandcrawler 75059, maybe my favorite brick-built droid from the calendar.
Jake: An S-Tier advent build.
Expansion: I don’t know if these horse heads have appeared unprinted or in black before but they’re definitely rare so I’m glad to have them as giddy up ponies here. Not sure what the red parts are for though. 4/5
Bones: Couldn’t those be fences for show jumping?
Fools: Ah… hobby horsing. My Instagram feed’s worst enemy.
Expansion: The mechanical horse. The jury is still out on whether this is adorable or hideous.
Jake: Babu Frik! You’re going to put Okapies out of business.
