Our favorite holiday tradition is opening all six LEGO Advent Calendars, one day at a time, with you, our readers! Along with spoiler pics of the daily gifts, we include commentary and alternate builds to celebrate the season and creativity.
We have an all-star cast of custom minifig creators leading our Advent adventure this year. Fool’s Figures is wizarding his way through Harry Potter and Frozen calendars. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City. Now let’s open some doors and see what gifts are in store for today!
Fools: This chocolate frog ought to be quite the mouthful!
Bones: This is definitely a muscular and stiff frog, almost looking afraid as it’s about to be eaten, poor thing!
Jake: Is it hazelnut flavored?
Fools: For today’s gift we get a couple of musical instruments, a saxophone and an accordion, which I think is very fun.
Bones: Lovely accordion design, so simple yet so clean. Love it!
Expansion: the yellow accordion lowkey looks like it is made of straw!
Jake: Saxophone seems like a weird pick for Frozen, considering it wasn’t invented until the late 19th century, but I suppose since Aladdin is contemporary to Frozen and Genie played a sax in his timeless Clinton impression, word could have reached Arendelle.
Fools: “Engorgio!”
Bones: An adorable kitten and a cardboard box. Of course, nothing makes a cat happier than a box… But maybe for a child, a little something extra to build wouldn’t hurt.
Fools: My cat loves Christmas too. She loves playing with all the wrapping paper and boxes. But it is Christmas, so the boxes are colorfully wrapped and decorated. A more jolly color or design on the box would’ve gone a long way.
Bones: Microbuilds are back today in Minecraft with a tiny Winter Cabin. I can see the snow on the roof, and I suppose that orange tile represents a cozy fire to warm up… everything is tiled, smooth, and looks great.
Fools: A super cute winter-time house!
Bones: The microscale cabin really does look more like a church!
Bones: Protective helmet, check. Rampart, check. Bait for the beast, check. Everything is in place to capture the enemy kittens!
Jake: That is absolutely adorable. My favorite alt build yet!
Expansion: B2EMO from the Andor show! Amazing to see this character after he was absent from the Andor sets. I’m also so impressed how recognizable he is in brick built form. This is exactly the kind of build I want from advent calendars. Clever and useable 5/5
Jake: Whoa! New background?
Expansion: Black didn’t seem like the most festive backdrop.
Bones: My buddy B2EMO isn’t at his best here. I’ve seen some simple MOCs that look less flat. Still happy to see him, just go watch Andor, pretty please.
Fools: B2 would definitely thrive with some specialized pieces, but this brick-built version is likely the best we’ll ever get in an official set.
Expansion: A hot chocolate brewing kit. A fun Christmas essential. Don’t think we didn’t notice the lack of milk carton printing though. We know one exists. 3/5
Jake: They could have re-used Luke’s blue milk piece. Does blue milk stay blue when you add chocolate?
Bones: All the print budget went into the chocolate tile.
Fools: I love a good Swiss Miss packet as much as anybody, but it’s always nice to make hot chocolate the traditional way!
Expansion: B2EMO has been upgraded with some side turrets and a flamethrower. The empire will never see it coming!
Jake: B2EMO? More like B2M3TL.
