Our favorite holiday tradition is opening all six LEGO Advent Calendars, one day at a time, with you, our readers! Along with spoiler pics of the daily gifts, we include commentary and alternate builds to celebrate the season and creativity.
We have an all-star cast of custom minifig creators leading our Advent adventure this year. Fool’s Figures is wizarding his way through Harry Potter and Frozen calendars. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City. Now let’s open some doors and see what gifts are in store for today!
Fools: This unnamed Hufflepuff student displays the last of the holiday sweaters, featuring a Mandrake. While at first I was unsure as to why they chose not to include a major character, I think it’s likely because the only well known female Hufflepuff student is Susan Bones, and she would be easily mistaken for Ginny Weasley.
Jake: According to Brickset, this is Hannah Abbot. There is a time I would have remembered that, but I haven’t been renewing my Harry Potter trivia nodes in a long time.
Fools: With today’s gift, you now have everything you need to make your own Hogwarts student! Both leg lengths, every sweater, and all the base wand colors.
Expansion: Those Christmas jumpers lined up together look great!
Bones: Oh my, they’re all absolutely adorable! I’ll take the Ravenclaw one for those long winter evenings.
Jake: Why does Slytherin have a white peg stripe, though? What are they hiding under their minfig heads?
Fools: Today we get stockings for Anna and Elsa, along with a small wreath, all of which can be hung up by the fireplace from yesterday!
Bones: A bit of cheating from LEGO if you ask me, since the builds from days 9 and 10 could easily have been combined into a single gift.
Jake: Definitely a Scrooge move.
Bones: Another microscale build, this time a little remote-controlled car. Perhaps my love for this clever little builds biases me, but I find it particularly well done the rounded shapes of the windshield and the spoiler really give it that sports car feel, and I can hardly see how it could be done better with so few pieces.
Jake: City calendars love their RC vehicles! This is a great one.
Fools: This RC car looks awesome, definitely something I’d have wanted as a kid.
Bones: The least interesting day of the Minecraft calendar in my opinion. The bed is probably very faithful to the Minecraft style and a must-have in any Minecraft house but it’s hard to get to excited about a few stacked plates. At least it comes with a nice sword.
Expansion: A bed? Yawn!
Fools: Not sure what could’ve been done to make this gift more festive, but it’s still nice to get a bed. After all, if you’re not asleep by midnight on Christmas Eve, Santa might not pay a visit.
Jake: What’s the recipe to craft an RC car in Minecraft?
Bones: BeepBot and his trusty sword, apparently he only has one arm because his operating system couldn’t handle two!
Jake: I bet Babu Frik could give him an upgrade. Speaking of which…
Expansion: A tool rack. This station connects to the workshop from day 2 which is nice to see come together. The final workshop will look quite impressive but day by day it is not that exciting 3/5
Fools: Perhaps the most vital part of Babu’s workshop, his tools!
Bones: Day 9: a box of droid parts. Day 10: a tool rack. I really hope it isn’t raining today, otherwise the kids are going to be disappointed.
Jake: At least its not another blaster rack.
Expansion: A third sleepover guest and a third exclusive pajama print. These characters have definitely had some love put into them. And it is fun to see the various sleeping bag colors 4/5
Fools: This is my second favorite of the figures in this calendar, I love a nice home-baked gingerbread cookie!
Bones: Sorry buddy, but your friend has already won the best-pajamas contest with her raccoon outfit.
Expansion: With all the guests arriving it’s no wonder they got up to some mischief. 3PO is really going through the wringer in these alt builds. Hopefully there will be new Star Wars minifigures soon!
Jake: He was made to suffer.
