Our favorite holiday tradition is opening all six LEGO Advent Calendars, one day at a time, with you, our readers! Along with spoiler pics of the daily gifts, we include commentary and alternate builds to celebrate the season and creativity.
We have an all-star cast of custom minifig creators leading our Advent adventure this year. Fool’s Figures is wizarding his way through Harry Potter and Frozen calendars. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City. Now let’s open some doors and see what gifts are in store for today!
Fools: This jumbo-size box of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans is sure to delight or disgust!
Expansion: the ultimate party forfeit is eating a jumbo box of Bertie Bot’s in one sitting!
Bones: Four new 2×3 printed tiles in one gift, this really is Christmas. Seems perfect for a circus moc.
Fools: A little Hogwarts-made peppermint for the students stockings.
Fools: This sled build doesn’t exactly match anything seen in the films, but it matches Anna’s iconic color scheme nicely!
Jake: Last year’s Disney Princess calendar was all over the place with colors. I like this more focused approach.
Fools: You can also combine it with yesterday’s gift to have Sven draw the sleigh!
Bones: Neither Minecraft nor City has these combinable gifts, which is a really cool idea I’d love to see more often. (Of course, you can combine all the Minecraft builds into a ‘Minecraft workshop’, but it’s not the same!)
Bones: After the bulldozer from day 2, here comes the microscale tractor. It’s a bit less appealing than the first one in my eyes, a 1 × 1 half-oval tile on top would have broken the square shape a bit and made it feel less random.
Bones: Today brings our second Minecraft monster: a snow golem. If you’ve already seen this built in LEGO, you’ll be a bit disappointed that it doesn’t come with the printed tile and the brick with three black dots here. But it definitely fits the Christmas theme!
Jake: Aw, the snow golem got a present!
Bones: The terrible mobile unit blasting snowballs with its two arm-mounted cannons.
Jake: They have wheels now?
Expansion: Continuing the long tradition of brick built gonk droids, this one is a bit all over the place. I understand the broom but what is that lever on the left side? I think I’ll have to make my own gonk later to show them how it’s done 2/5
Bones: Is it supposed to clean restrooms and host gender reveal parties?
Expansion: A cute gecko with a full habitat simple but full of charm and colour this could almost be a poly bag unto itself 5/5
Jake: LEGO is getting a lot of mileage out of that Bruni mold.
Expansion: this gonk should at least make itself useful by doing nanny duty for the gecko. Gonks always had that maternal instinct
Bones: AI is really going way too far now…
