Our favorite holiday tradition is opening all six LEGO Advent Calendars, one day at a time, with you, our readers! Along with spoiler pics of the daily gifts, we include commentary and alternate builds to celebrate the season and creativity.
We have an all-star cast of custom minifig creators leading our Advent adventure this year. Fool’s Figures is wizarding his way through Harry Potter and Frozen calendars. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City. Now let’s open some doors and see what gifts are in store for today!
Fools: The Sorting Hat! Just in case you don’t know which sweater to use for your wizarding world sig-fig.
Bones: The narrow base and very tall tip of the Sorting Hat make it somewhat unconvincing compared to the other builds this year.
Jake: Yeah, no. I’m not putting that on my head.
Fools: This adorable micro-scale Sven works well as a baby Sven with normal scale minifigures and minidolls! It also comes with a piece to complete his body when you remove the reins.
Bones: Sven was already in last year’s Disney advent calendar, but this time he comes with a harness. It’s always nice to see large animal molds included.
Jake: Where’s the rest of the clanker? This is why battle droids can’t be Reindeer herders.
Fools: Just by switching these eye pieces and quarter tiles around, you can get a whole bunch of different expressions out of the Sorting Hat! It looks a little cuter too, in my opinion.
Jake: So much better! I would wear that.
Bones: If you’re used to calendars, you won’t be surprised to find microscale builds here too. So here is the first Minecraft one: a snowy biome with a micro Steve. Similar to what you can find in the first set of this scale (21265), you get a printed plate with Steve’s face, and the build is pretty convincing considering the size.
Fools: This is a super cute nod to how the LEGO Minecraft theme started!
Bones: Of course we get a Christmas sweater, a tradition in these products. This one is nothing special to me: a good torso, but nothing outstanding, though thankfully it’s printed on the back.
Jake: I’m curious to see if there will be other sweaters in a set like last year’s city figs.
Bones: Note that you get two facial expressions, including one with the eyes closed for the camera.
Jake: A wild Steve has appeared!
Bones: Our first shielded warrior comes with a good old big mace, but with a soft cushion shield. We’re not savages.
Jake: If he’s got the mace, who’s bringing the cinnamon and nutmeg?
Expansion: Looks to be an operating chair for C3PO to lie on in Babu Frik’s workshop. I’m getting dentist vibes here. 3/5
Jake: Nope.
Fools: An operating chair is pretty far down on my list of places I’d like to be this season, but when you think about it, isn’t it like a droids bed? Let’s hope 3P0 can get a good recharge here.
Bones: Since this year’s theme is droids, it’s most likely a mobile recycling bin droid with an open compartment.
Expansion: A second sleepover guest arrives with another Christmas themed pajama set. The sleeping bag build also returns this time in medium blue. 4/5
Fools: The Heartlake City pals look to be gearing up for a holiday slumber party! This festive raccoon pajama set is my new favorite outfit so far.
Bones: The Friends line always comes with a vibrant mix of colors, that’s what makes it unique, and this little blue Christmas raccoon printed on the coral pajamas is no exception!
Jake: Does it come in mens large?
Expansion: C3PO continues to expand his command post empire with this radar dish and barricade.
