Day 1 got off to a fun start with a figure behind every door! What surprises does Day 2 have in store across this year’s calendars? Let’s find out with our intrepid team of Advent explorers!
Harry Potter and Frozen calendars are being covered by Fool’s Figures, who also provided the cover image below. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City.
Fools: An adorable Hedwig build, including the first of many of this printed eye tile.
Jake: It’s vaguely owlish, I guess. Hardly a superb owl.
Fools: Alt build – Diet Hedwig.
Jake: Scrawny, and yet more studly than the classic verison!
Bones: Poor Hedwig! Is this part of the usual routine before a new school year to prepare them to deliver lots of letters?
Fools: This gingerbread castle is a great idea, but it could’ve been even better if it resembled Arendelle castle.
Bones: That this exclusive print on a 2×2 box looks really nice, I can’t wait to see it reused by microscale MOC makers.
Jake: Fun concept, deliciously executed!
Bones: A coffee machine for today, a pretty strange choice, but well, I’m no Minecraft player. Digging must be tiring, so you surely need a break between two blocks. The color choice is a bit strange, but it comes with a small spoon to delicately stir your coffee. A thoughtful little touch!
Fools: We got a player in Day 1, so what’s the first step now that we’ve spawned in?
Jake: I realize these builds are mini, but couldn’t they have at least made the tree less lop-sided?
Bones: Here is a microscale bulldozer. As a creator of microscale builds, I have to say that the limited part usage here is actually pretty perfect: seven pieces and you instantly recognize what it is.
Fools: Something I appreciate about City microbuilds in particular is that they function both as miniatures for display or collection, but also as toys for the minifigures.
Jake: An updgraded coffee maker?
Bones: Our first adventurers: a mysterious ice mage and a warrior from the far north, on top of the hill and ready for their next adventure.
Expansion: Looks to be part of Babu Frik’s workshop that will be expanded in the future. Not super exciting but some nice parts and a useful print 3/5
Jake: It’s not the worst workshop. It comes with a waffle maker, but does it come with a stepping stool for little Babu?
Expansion: It seems like the little guy is going to have to practice his high jump if he wants to reach his tools.
Fools: With Babu Frik being the width of one LEGO stud, I can picture him jumping up and down on that big red button like a trampoline. Must be fun.
Expansion: Who doesn’t love a puppy at Christmas time? This fella is adorable. A few more accessories wouldn’t have gone amiss though! 4/5
Fools: An exclusive print or recolor would’ve been nice to see, or some more accessories at the very least.
Jake: Keep it away from Babu Frik! It could swallow him whole!
Expansion: For my first alt build, I’ve put together a puppy vet station using parts from both calendars. A good dog deserves good health, even if he loves chewing things he shouldn’t!
Bones: Adorable little scene, but I’ll stay on my guard until I get confirmation that this red stud is strawberry jam.
Jake: I’m sorry to report that the red stud is all that remains of poor Babu Frik.
