The Brothers Brick

2020 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 11

Happy holidays to all of our fellow LEGO builders! As is tradition, we at The Brothers Brick will be opening our advent calendars as we count down to Christmas. We’ll also be sharing commentary on each one, which will be both insightful and hilarious!

This year we have new Harry Potter, Star Wars, City and Friends advent calendars to open. We will be sharing images of the new calendars every day through Christmas, and hope that you’ll join us! Let’s see what there is to open on Day 11.

Roaring into Day 11 is both a hearty fireplace from City and the famous Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.

CJ: The Potter fireplace build really outclasses the Friends version back on day 3. The overall build and shape is more pleasing, and the stocking is more colorful. Also, not having it hung directly in front of the fire makes it feel less likely to catch on fire. That said, the use of the quarter circle tile for the heel just highlights that underlying “round tile on a square edged base” problem we saw with Friends.  Oh, and a bonus point for a holiday themed day. The Micro falcon  is successful, and looks swooshable. Too bad it doesn’t come with that display stand.

Bart: Try two on the brick build Christmas sock. Same parts, different colors, slightly better results.

Lino: (Morgan Freeman voice) With a quick flash and a whiff of burnt plastic, December 1980 will forever inhabit the annuls of legend as “The Christmas to end all Christmases”.

Benjamin: This wasn’t the first time the Falcon improbably burst out of a tiny flaming hole.

Ed: Wheel Of Fortune – Before and After: Chewie, we’re home is where the hearth is.

If the stocking catches fire, the fire truck from the City advent calendar can put it out. And don’t forget the adorable wooden train toy from Friends!

Bart: Look at that cutesy train!

CJ: The City fire truck-esque build doesn’t really work for me, but the Friends toy train is really fun little creation. The use of minifigure roller states as wheels is such a great way to add tiny details to things. The holiday colors work, and it’s a good addition to the “whack/build a duck” from day 8. (And that’s another holiday point for Friends.)

Benjamin: That train is the best thing I’ve see from the Friends calendar so far, quite delightful, and the fire truck isn’t bad, too.

Ed: No idea what that vehicle is until Cj pointed it out. That tiny red train is neat tho.

That wraps up today’s LEGO Advent Calendar builds. Join us tomorrow for Day 12, the twelfth day of Christmas! I can hear those drummers drumming already.
