When there’s something strange in the LEGOhood, who you gonna call? Darren Thew, that’s who! The Ecto 1 has been modeled in LEGO bricks many times before, but Darren takes things to a new level with a massive version of the beloved vehicle from Ghostbusters. He has taken great care in striving for authenticity, from every minute detail on the roof to the use of System and Technic parts to form the curvaceous shape of the retrofitted 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor.
It wouldn’t be the Ecto 1 without the iconic red fins, which flow naturally from white Technic parts. Even the taillights consist of multiple elements.
One of my favorite details is the ladder leading to the roof. You can even catch a glimpse of the interior details.
Opening the rear door reveals the Proton Packs, which are accessible when the stretcher is pulled out. The stretcher itself has a folding wheel assembly.
One of the coolest design aspects is how Darren used light gray to form the chrome trim, while lining the exterior with white elements. It adds a bit of realism, especially with the front windshield.
The hood even opens to reveal a brick-built engine.
