It started with a dream – the dream of AFOLSs Carson Lacey and Syrdarian who dared prompt a new building challenge for the community: NovHENber. Frogs and crabs have had their time. Now let the chickens rise to the top of the pecking order! One builder who answered the call and has been strutting her stuff all month is Kristel Whitaker, who just finished her series of ten hens, starting with this plucky lady. This is an extraordinary build of a totally ordinary bird, living her modest egg-laying life on a bed of cozy chopsticks straw.
Only at the end of the series does Kristel reveal the nine fanciful fowl that followed were actually the first chicken’s dreams, with each microbuild becoming a piece of an impressive MOC with a brickbuilt dream bubble housing the peculiar and prodigious poultry. Each of these hens deserves a moment of appreciation.
The dreamer starts with humble visions. What if instead of a Leghorn layer, she was a Rhode Island Red?
Or perhaps she could put on a tux and pull rabbits from hats as a MagiciHEN.
She could imagine herself as CaptHEN Red Beard, sailing the seven seas in search of treasure in a costume inspired by LEGO’s classic pirate captain.
She could study her dinosaur ancestors as a paleHENtologist. Or solve chicken related murders. It’s a very versatile look.
She could have a go at burninating the peasants as a mighty dragHEN. After all, is her beak not a consummate V?
Or rather than rage, perhaps she could protect a gizzard wizard from HENwarts as a Patronus.
She could be a HandyHEN, fixing up coops to keep the foxes out, or helping put up shelves.
Why couldn’t she be a ComediHEN delivering stand-up comedy? Chickens are notoriously funny, especially when it comes to road-related jokes.
Or she could just be a Big Bird and make new friends on Sesame Street. After all, Oscar calls Big Bird a turkey, which isn’t that far off from a hen!
So many dreams from our humble hen! If you’d like to build your own hen for NovHENber or any month of the year, Kristel has made available free instructions for the classic Leghorn variety that you can customize according to your whims. What roles will you dream up for your hen?
