The Brothers Brick

This gigantic LEGO Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is made of 100,000 bricks

LEGO builder Michał Kaźmierczak just earned 1,000 points for his house with this astounding model of Hogwarts, the famed school from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Taking around 9 months of planning and building, Michał’s construction displays so much prowess with the architectural and natural forms required to bring it to life. The exterior shows the docks, a Quidditch pitch, and Professor Sprout’s greenhouses. Some of the exterior buildings like the Great Hall and the Astronomy Tower are instantly recognizable, even to a fair-weather HP fan such as myself.

Checking out the other side of the castle, you can see all the detail put into the hallways, staircases, and rooms of the school. I particularly like the details in the Chamber of Secrets. The coloration of the watery floor, and the sculpting of the snakes along the chamber’s walls feels right at home with the book and movie. In the hall above, the bar and arm technique used here is an excellent solution to the picture frame problem. And I love all the candlesticks hung with string to give the floating effect in the Great Hall.

On the other side of the castle, even more famous scenes from the series are available. We have the traps encountered trying to reach the Sorcerer’s Stone in Book 1, the titular Goblet of Fire from Book 4, and the Dueling Club from Book 2. Each vignette gets its own attention, and feels unique without feeling separate from the build as a whole. It also feels like the scenes were well-scaled to fit within the shell created by the exterior, with some added rooms like Bellatrix’s attic or the gold hoard added to help fill in the gaps.
