The Brothers Brick

Using LEGO to unleash your inner beast

I’m a firm believer in the tried and true mantra, “good things come to those who wait.” While we didn’t know it, we had to wait a full year for this formidable looking fire gorgon built by Andrew Steele; that’s how long it took him to build the beast! It’s no wonder either, because at 1.4 m (4.6 ft) in length the fire gorgon is as big as some children! Building big allows for more detailing, and the sculpting of this creature’s body is phenomenal.

In particular, I love the reptilian look of the face and the fierce inset eyes. Then there are those razor sharp teeth with a massive pair of fangs — a clever use for the Jurassic World Indominus Rex dinosaur tail.

The whole thing looks incredible from foot….

….to tail, and that tail appears to be articulated. If you look closely enough, you can even spy some of the printed ball-joint panels from the LEGO Star Wars Chewbacca constraction figure.

The icing on the cake is the fiery glow flowing down the throat through the belly. This is achieved with lighting inside the model and transparent colored elements, which are cleverly held in place by white nets. The hint of purple above the glowing embers provides additional visual interest to this fire breather.

At the end of the day, we’re glad Andrew took all the time and dedication to really sink his teeth into building this amazing model.

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured one of Andrew’s models. You might remember these creatures from back in February 2019, back when work on the fire gorgon was in the early stages.
