When LEGO phenom Nick Trotta comes out with a new spaceship, we sit up and take note. Not least because more often than not they come equipped with great honking guns which we don’t want to get in the way of. We’re only watching out for ourselves, you know. But it does give us a chance to take a good look at the complex angles and mechanical details that have become Nick’s signature. And my word it looks fantastic.
Let’s start with an overview. Nick’s Chain Reaction starfighter is inspired by thr Thunder Force game series. The silhouette of this is pure shmup fighter from above as well as below, and we see how complete Nick’s detailing is. No angle is safe!
My personal favourite part is the engine covers at the rear. The struts are reminiscent of some of the previous work we’ve seen from Nick (which you can see in our archives, naturally).
And impressive though they are, the business end is at the opposite extremity to the engines. Just one massive rail-gun down the middle clearly isn’t enough, might as well have some extra firepower right? In for a penny, in for a pound and all that. Whoever’s at the other end is certainly in for a pounding, that’s for sure.
All that considered, the cockpit looks rather frail, don’t you think? After all, if you need guns that big, whoever you’re pointing them at probably has some to match. Still, that’s not to say it doesn’t look good – it’s so sleek in that trans-green! And the way that the panelling matches up at the rear… Chef’s kiss. Especially the yellow stripe.
