Not every Gift With Purchase is a classic, but the Flying Moon Car from earlier this year had big nostalgia appeal with its retro space stylings. Builder Andrew Lee missed out on the offer and felt lunar remorse. Fortunately, LEGO makes the instructions freely available (here’s a link to the moon car), so Andrew had a go at making his own, with a cherry red paint job.
Why stop there? Soon, one moon car became a month-long marathon of making a space city’s worth of variants, each more delightful than the last. Andrew started small with a closed-top version.
But then things get wild. Stretched limo moon car with open-top jacuzzi? Yes, please.

The alien lineup is incredible, drawing on minifig heads from Space Police, CMF series, and more.
Of course you need taxi and tow truck variants. I appreciate how every car uses a sideways window frame for the grille, but sometimes it’s a square frame instead of the arche version of the original.
There are luxurious cars for the rich and famous lunar residents.
Pizza delivery car and flying RV are two of my favorites…
But I think Andrew saved the best for last – a hover “horse” trailer for when you’ve hit the end of the road. Yee-haw!
