LEGO reveals six new sets to celebrate 80 years of Batman, including classic vehicles, villains and Shazam! [News]

Batman is turning 80 on March 30, so LEGO is launching six new DC Super Heroes sets to celebrate. The line-up of sets includes our heroes Batman, Robin and Batwoman using iconic vehicles such as the Batmobile, Batwing and Batcycle to defeat classic villains like The Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Riddler. In addition to the expected Batman characters, Shazam also comes in one set (most certainly a nod to the upcoming DC film).

The sets range in price from $9.99 to $99.99 USD with general availability starting later this summer on August 1st. One set including Mr. Freeze will be available at Walmart one month early starting on June 1st.

New LEGO Batman set for 2019 unveiled with a Bat-Submarine [News]

The first pictures are available online for the new LEGO Batman 76116 Batman™ Batsub and the Underwater Clash set which is expected to be released early in 2019. Featuring 3 minifigures, Batman, Aquaman, and Ocean Master, a shark and a propelling Bat-Submarine shown taking a dive. A new change has the box art has dropped the Superheroes template that we’ve been used to and only shows the Batman insignia and the DC logo.

Wonder Woman at the ready

Polish builder Lucas Aligierski takes us to Themyscira with his LEGO Wonder Woman, a model he sweetly dedicated to his wife. The model belongs to a class of sculptures that expertly blends traditional LEGO System elements with constraction-scale elements like those produced for Bionicle and Hero Factory. The pieces used lend themselves to the very organic, muscled look of everyone’s favorite DC warrior princess. The sculpted look is appropriate for a character born from clay.

TEEN TITANS (LE)GO!

Although I’m up to date with all the movies in DC’s cinematic “Extended Universe” it’s not the part of their media empire I’m most familiar with. Instead, I get to blame my kids for every episode of Cartoon Network’s “Teen Titans GO!” that I’ve had to suffer through (and then eventually succumb to). It is unapologetic in its juvenile humor and will break down your will to resist and then begins to hammer home with clever gags, running jokes, and surprise DC comic character cameos.

Which brings me to this humongous LEGO scene from builder Living Rave in Canada. The cacophony of the show is perfectly encapsulated in this diorama that features the iconic Titans Tower just offshore from Jump City, which is appropriately under attack from every direction.

The elaborate build is enhanced with the addition of official characters thanks to the waves of minifigures released with LEGO Dimensions and the LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigures series. I also love the giant brick-built TTG logo in the background. There’s even a brick-built version of their strongest enemy, the demonic Trigon, who also happens to be heroine Raven’s father.

August is here, and the floodgates of LEGO have opened with 58 new sets available today. Fans of Star Wars, Technic, Ninjago, City & Trains, Friends, Harry Potter and even Unikitty and Powerpuff Girls have a lot to choose from. We have your guide right here of each and every new set.

Black Lightning revealed as another San Diego Comic-Con 2018 LEGO exclusive minifigure [News]

The DC Comics exclusive minifigure for San Diego Comic-Con 2018 has been revealed to be Black Lightning, based off of the new CW show of the same name. The exclusive follows up the Comic-Con Atom minifigure from Legends of Tomorrow released two years ago.

LEGO BrickHeadz 41610 Tactical Batman and Superman from Justice League [Review]

What could be better than one LEGO BrickHeadz character? Perhaps two BrickHeadz characters! So that Super Hero fans aren’t forced to make a hard choice between Batman and Superman, LEGO is offering a very nice-looking duo of the most famous DC heroes in a single box. The new LEGO BrickHeadz 41610 Tactical Batman and Superman is the latest addition to the DC Justice League sets line-up; now the two main protagonists are joining the rest of the team. The set consists of just 209 pieces and retails at $19.99 / € 19.99.

Welcome to the Dark Knight’s dressing room

Batman has always been a guy who likes to change his outfit, every new Batman seems to get a new Bat-suit to wear.  Thorsten Bonsch has graced the pages of The Brothers Brick many times, and this time he has taken on the Dark Knight’s dressing room.  With more that a little gothic influence, Thorsten has place the costumes deep within the Bat Cave.  The winding staircase uses fences as the steps leading to the raised platform.  I love the brick-built stalactites and stalagmites giving a sense of impressive scale to the scene.

Taking a closer look at the platform gives a better view of the Gothic-inspired cases for the Bat-suit and Robin-suit and you can see that both the central pillar and the cases have elaborate, ornamental decoration.  I love the tall candlesticks on the table, they fit into the scene perfectly.

Batman’s ride tumbles black into action

Batman seems to own more vehicles and contraptions than a superhero would ever need, including the infamous Tumbler. This was originally a prototype armoured tank designed for the military and includes a host of weaponry, plus the ability to boost power and jump over obstacles or gaps. There are a lot of LEGO tumblers around, but this smaller scale Tumbler by The Ka. Lor Project  caught our eye with some nice details and proportions, and importantly it is mainly black.

There’s some attractive shaping involved in this build, perhaps best admired from a bat’s eye view.

2018 LEGO set images for LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes, Creator, City and Technic revealed [News]

Official images of a selection of early 2018 LEGO sets have been released, including LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes, Creator, City and Technic sets due for release. The details include the set number and part count or pricing in some cases,  but not all the information has been released as yet. There are a couple of interesting sets in particular with 31081 Modular Skate House within the Creator theme, and 42074 Racing Yacht from the Technic line-up.

Gotham rooftop rendezvous

Builder Tan Kok Mun recreates a rooftop scene between the Dark Knight and his ally Commissioner Gordon. There are three things that stand out to me in this build: first, the Gothic motif of the rooftop, which is intricate and a clever use of bricks. The next is the ingenious use of the bat signal — especially the projection of the signal into the night. Lastly, and most definitely my favourite of all, is the city skyline. It is so simple and enchanting, giving a sense of surrealism to the scene.

Batman versus Superman in a friendly game of Chess

Who will win is anyone’s guess as these delightful poseable figures go brick head to brick head. Featuring fantastic custom LEGO minifig capes, these custom BrickHeadz designed by Kale Frost are simply brilliant! The scene pits two of DC’s most popular superheroes against each other in a friendly game, as these characters battle it out across the table. Judging by the pieces left on the Chess board, it looks like Superman is losing pieces faster than a speeding bullet.
