LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz 40623: Battle of Endor Heroes [Review]

It is hard to believe it’s been 40 years since the premiere of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. This year LEGO has announced several sets in the Star Wars theme from dioramas to BrickHeadz, to super-star destroyers, all to celebrate the end of the original trilogy. With Battle of Endor Heroes, we get 5 heroes of the rebellion in their Endor attire…well, four plus R2, who doesn’t wear anything besides his cheerful disposition. This mixture of standard and buddy-sized characters includes Jedi Luke with his green lightsaber, R2, Cape-wearing Lando, spunky Wicket, and jungle-camo Leia. LEGO Star Wars 40623: Battle of Endor Heroes comes with 549 pieces and is available now for US $39.99 | CAN $49.99 | UK £39.99

The LEGO Group provided The Brothers Brick with an early copy of this set for review. Providing TBB with products for review guarantees neither coverage nor positive reviews.

Unboxing the parts and instructions

The set comes in a long black tape-sealed box with the five figures in a row and their BrickHeadz series numbers. Jedi Luke (202), R2-D2 (203), Lando Calrissian in a cape (204), Wicket the brave young Ewok (205), and finally Endor Leia (206). The five heroes are arranged differently and positioned on their stands on the back of the box.

Inside the box, there are 5 numbered bags, one for each model. There is also an instruction booklet for each hero, but as usual with BrickHeadz, there is no sticker sheet, only printed elements.

The build

Luke (202)

Luke starts out in a typical way, with a stack of outward-facing stud bricks. The details of his folded-down shirt collar is a printed tile, and we also get a nice rounded belt buckle. The face includes his bangs and the rest of his tousled sandy-blonde hair. One hand is black for his gloved mechanical hand.

R2-D2 (203)

R2 is one of two Endor heroes designed to the buddy scale of 3×3. Instead of the usual pink brick brain of organics, this one has a transparent blue cylinder brick. R2’s domed head includes several printed metallic silver tiles. The legs are attached using headlight bricks to achieve a nice inset.

Lando (204)
In the middle of building Lando’s body, we get an unusual filler piece, 2×2 round bricks with two holes. Also, there are several of the 5-plate tall bricks with side studs in a variety of colors like nougat and bright pink. Lando has nicely detailed hair, and of course, his sand-blue cape is very sharp. He also has a printed brick satchel strap.

Wicket (205)
With a furry printed brick for his belly, Wicket is almost as cute as Grogu, or the Nagini. He sports his signature flappy leather hat and a short spear. His tiny pink brain made from a single plate seems pretty accurate as well.

Princess Leia (206)

Leia starts out in the usual way, with her jungle camo made from a mix of bricks and tiles. Her jungle rebel helmet is very accurate to her on-screen reference, including a short brim. She also includes a printed tile utility belt and a biscuit for Wicket.

The finished model

The finished heroes make a decent line-up, especially since this is the first BrickHeadz treatment for some of them. They are all well-detailed.

Conclusions and recommendations

If you are a Star Wars fan or a BrickHeadz fan, or both, I can highly recommend picking up this set to add to your collection. I really enjoyed building them, and there are a few nice techniques used for some of the details like Lando’s hair, and Wicket’s hood. I plan to pick one of these mostly for that Artoo. I’m going to display it along with the usual Artoo minifigure and the Artoo polybag in ascending order of height.
