2022 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 17

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows  every day in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations and jokes about each day’s builds!

We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy) and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 17, shall we?

First Christmas tree klaxon! And City has got there first. The Friends day 17 present is a reindeer. Interestingly this was loose in the box, without even a bag, but I guess it is only one piece.

The Guardians of the Galaxy need an antagonist, and that’s sort of what they have today with a Thanos snowman. Star Wars gets a suitably winter-y snowtrooper, and in Harry Potter we have what appears to be a Pensieve.

Ben: That reindeer is *heart eyes emoji*! The Thanos snowman is actually quite cool, adding a Christmas theme to a key scene from Endgame works really well. Genuinely surprised how inventive LEGO are with the Christmas trees. We see so many neat little minifig scale trees.

Chris: I don’t really have any specific complaints about the Pensieve, but it feels boring. Maybe it just needs a memory wafting out to complete the effect. The baby reindeer is just adorable though. And hooray for LEGO Christmas tree design #67.

CJ: Always happy to see cute animals, and the Christmas tree is a nice variation on this year’s ‘stacked wedge plate’ design we’ve seen in other seasonal sets.

Bart: Cute animals always win!

The Vesa Lehtimäki (Avanaut) fans among you will know that snowtroopers are quite fond of ice and snow sculptures. This year TK-24/7 has enlisted the help of a local cute animal to finish off his latest masterpiece.
