2022 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 16

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows daily in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations, and jokes about each day’s builds!

We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy), and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 16, shall we?

Another toy bench from Friends for day 16, this time with a penguin and some more presents. City gives us what at first looks like a game of checkers, but the 3×3 tile layout gives it away as a noughts and crosses board.

For Star Wars it’s a section of wall, complete with stud shooter and mouse droid (there are actually enough spare parts for a second droid). Marvel has a retro stereo system. Harry Potter has what I’m informed is a professor Slughorn couch – I can’t say I remember that from the movies, but that’s just me.

CJ: The micro penguin is a great design!

Bart: We’ve come a long way when it comes to brick-built penguins.

Kyle: I feel like the tic-tac-toe board would be better served with some studs instead of smooth tiles.

I do appreciate a good Slughorn couch!

Chris: Armchair Horace Slughorn might just be my favourite Harry Potter minifigure from an advent calendar ever. And that stereo is remarkably cool, too. The little penguin is great, and playable tic-tac-toe? That’s brilliant.

Ben: The SW build is a great and faithful micro version of a past set. The stereo is a nice complimentary musical build that I think is going to find a home in some MOCs. That penguin is great, I’m sure we’ll be seeing these in Gotham City in no time too!

I think Ben is referring to 75229 Death Star Escape released in 2019… There is a passing resemblance but you do have to squint! I actually think it’s a weapons rack cunningly disguised as a wall section. Weapons racks are as much a staple of Christmas as turkey and presents, so it would be a surprise if we didn’t see one in some form or another…
