2022 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 5

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows  every day in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations and jokes about each day’s builds!

We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy) and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 5, shall we?

The floor plan of the City calendar includes some train tracks, so at some point we were bound to get a toy train – and that’s just what we have today. I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be a miniature version of 60337 Express Passenger Train. The Friends build looks like a piñata, but it has space for a minidoll to ride on the back. So maybe it’s a really big piñata.

Much like Christmas itself, we seem to get an advent calendar battle droid every year, and that’s what Star Wars brings us today. We get a far more interesting minifigure in the Guardians of the Galaxy calendar, in the form of Rocket the raccoon. Harry Potter gives us the titular Chamber of Secrets.

Kyle: Battle droid Santa to his reindeer: “Now Roger! Now Roger! Now Roger and Roger! On Roger! On Roger! On Roger and Roger!”

Now I know that was a terrible joke, but at least it wasn’t an amorphous rainbow dog…

CJ: I kinda like the rainbow dog thing. More than yet another battle droid, for sure.

Bart: … Is that a dog?

Chris: Is that a rideable piñata? All of the other builds today are… Fine. I don’t have any specific complaints but they’re not very exciting either.

Daniel: The train is cool IMO. It would look great in any Micropolis scene.

Ben: A distinctly ‘meh’ day, the contrast between days 4 and 5 is quite significant.

Much like Marmite, the ride-on dog/piñata hybrid seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of deal. Rocket has clearly found some use for it though, as well as the Harry Potter build – albeit not without a bit of vandalism. I hope our unsuspecting battle droid isn’t scared of snakes.
