One stellar ship on patrol

The latest custom spaceship by Builder Caleb Ricks is a blend between classic shuttles and futuristic spacecraft. Creatively connected pieces build a practically seamless model straight from Caleb’s imagination but clearly inspired by a particular Christopher Nolan film. The USSC Interstellar is a patrol ship charged with keeping watch over various regions of space. This vessel from the United States Space Core scopes the cosmos for activity amongst the plethora of planets, stars, and nebulae that it encounters on its patrols.

This single-person craft has a design built for repeated atmospheric reentry in pursuit of fleeing criminals or even just returning to base. Wisely color-blocked, with a black line cutting across the profile of the white ship and circumventing the whole body, the Interstellar has a sleek, satisfying shape. That simple stand really helps display it properly so you can fully appreciate the work that Caleb put into this build.

Select, tightly engineered sections of red around the pilot’s canopy and the intake manifolds for the engines bring out the lettering on the printed “UNITED STATES” tiles that Caleb pulled from the 21309  NASA Apollo Saturn V set. There are a ton of fantastically textured sections shown in this angle, especially when you consider the different orientations of the separate elements of this model. The shot from above really highlights the inner “V” of red, by the intakes, which is practically hidden in the side angle from above. The arrowhead-like shaping of the body combined with the patterns created by the colors lend this to a vertical, wall-mounted display as well.

Of course, space nerds like myself will have to see the engines. Despite being a bit minimal, the clever shaping and separation of their housing lend to an immensely satisfying visual product. Making them the only elements that use dark bluish grey also helps visually set them apart from the rest of the craft. Granted, the little blue pulses coming out of them are also a strong clue.

I don’t think there’s a single bad angle of this build, top to bottom. Even looking underneath reveals an ingenious and meticulously designed structure meant to hide as many studs as possible. More red pops up highlighting another set of intake manifolds as well as lining the edges of the port in the center (presumably for the stand).

I’d definitely recommend checking out more of Caleb’s work once you’ve finished combing through these images. He’s made plenty of spaceships from classic series like Star Wars, Star Trek, and more but he’s also got a few from his own imagination peppered in his feed too.
