While Solo: A Star Wars Story may not have been a roaring success as far as Star Wars movies go, it did give us some interesting new ship designs and, by extension, some pretty decent LEGO sets. Han Solo’s M-68 Landspeeder was one of them, and Sebastian Arts (Aliencat!) has seen fit to upscale it and give the smuggler’s ride the Ultimate Collector Series treatment, with exquisite levels of detail!

Han Solo’s speeder is unique in its asymmetry, with the left side uncovered to show off its mechanical innards. This is the perfect opportunity for a spot of greebling, and Sebastian has done a superb job here. There’s a good mix of smaller and larger pieces to break up the flow.

This greebling continues onto the underside – an area that can sometimes get neglected in LEGO models since it is generally not seen very often. Here much of the detailing is accomplished through the use of various different tiles and plates. I also like how the stand is a perfect match for the speeder, with a sprinkling of greebles and a matching colour scheme.

Naturally, the model includes a fully kitted-out cockpit. I must admit the chequered seats remind me more of the ones in an old Mini rather than the muscle cars that no doubt inspired this speeder, but I have no doubt it’s accurate to the source material! Similar to the underbelly, the body of the speeder is tiled off with different-shaped tiles and plates. For some, studs are a big no-go in detailed LEGO models, especially where they’re visible. At this scale however, they work really well as extra detail and blemishes on the surface. It’s perfect for that ‘lived-in’ feel that characterizes the Star Wars universe.
