T-70 X-Wing in LEGO

The marriage of Star Wars and LEGO has made them so intrinsically connected that making your own version of the iconic X-wing starfighter can be a crowning achievement for some builders. Or maybe more like a litmus test for your building skills? Either way, Builder Jerac clearly understood the assignment while working on his 1250+ piece version of the T-70, first revealed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It may have taken him 22 tries to get it exactly right, but I’m sure Poe would be proud to fly this beauty.

Virtually studless, this is one smooth model of Poe Dameron’s X-wing. The builder didn’t skimp on the details, faithfully recreating the angles and shapes of the cockpit, wings, and fuselage. The old T-65 models were a bit bulkier with shorter noses, but these T-70s have a much slimmer profile. All of this proved to be a challenge while building but Jerac managed to pull it off in style. Plus, that stand is clean and perfect for display.

From this angle, you can already tell that he didn’t skimp on the mechanical details for the engines and folding wings. Though he made a T-70 with standard Resistance colors, the black and orange variant features an additional after-burner attachment on the back of the fuselage. I always love seeing hoses and wires being modeled. The folding s-foil mechanism is well hidden within the wings and body, avoiding a potential eye-sore.

What a delightful build. I mean, looking back at the LEGO set versions, they all pale in comparison. That’s what you usually get when you compare LEGO designs to fan-built models. Different constraints lead to different results.
