LEGO Star Wars 75310 Duel on Mandalore features Ahsoka vs. Maul [Review]

LEGO’s summer 2021 wave of Star Wars sets has been taking us back to the Clone Wars and early Empire eras, with sets like 75314 Bad Batch Attack Shuttle from the new animated series and the set we’re reviewing today, 75310 Duel on Mandalore from the final season of The Clone Wars released on Disney+ last year. This set 147 pieces with two minifigs, and will hit stores on August 1st for US $19.99 | CAN $24.99 | UK £17.99.

The LEGO Group provided The Brothers Brick with an early copy of this set for review. Providing TBB with products for review guarantees neither coverage nor positive reviews.

The packaging, instructions, & sticker sheet

No surprise, a low part count translates to a small box and thin instruction booklet. The front of the box features an Ahsoka trooper like last year’s AAT set, although there is no such trooper in this particular set. The back highlights the play features, which we’ll look at in depth later in this review.

There are only two bags in the set, and they aren’t numbered — just dump out all the parts and get building!

Five stickers in a set under 150 pieces is a bit unusual, and the sticker sheet is pretty big for such a small set. But the Mandalorian design aesthetic, somewhat reminiscent of the angles and lines of Art Deco, can’t really be built from bricks at this scale and part count, so it’s not much of a surprise.

The build

At under a hundred and fifty pieces, there isn’t really much to the actual build for this set, particularly since the build is split between Maul’s throne and the Mandalorian vault he’s imprisoned in. I think I spent more time applying stickers than I did attaching bricks to bricks.

The finished model & play features

Despite the small size of the build, it’s actually packed with play features. The throne itself is substantial, with decorative elements on the walls that match the transparent window behind him.

A secret compartment slides out from the throne, which contains a blaster — not that Maul needs a blaster to defend himself.

The trans-orange window flips back for a “breakaway” play feature.

Mandalorians throughout history used sarcophagus-like vaults to imprison force-wielders, and the Galactic Republic in its waning days used the last remaining vault to contain Maul so that he could be transported to Coruscant. The LEGO version of this vault is a simple container on hinges, with a silver sticker over a trans-clear panel. Maul’s minifig fits comfortably inside, with his eyes peeking through the opening.

The minifigures

A set this small inevitably focuses on the minifigs, and this set doesn’t disappoint. The Ahsoka Tano minifig is the same as the version released last year in the fantastic 75283 Armored Assault Tank, featuring her look from the final season of The Clone Wars, but it’s great to get this version of the fig in a lower-cost set.

The Maul minifig is brand new, based on his appearance in the series as the leader of Crimson Dawn.

Both minifigs feature detailed back printing, but since Maul doesn’t have headgear (other than his crown-like Zabrak horns), he only has a single facial expression.

Conclusions & recommendation

It’s hard to go wrong with a fun little build and two excellent minifigures for just $20. Even though the Ahsoka minifig is not new, its availability in a set half the price of the $40 AAT is great, and a brand new Maul is certainly welcome.
