Behind every great LEGO set, there are always at least two or three talented designers ready to share all the new product’s secrets. The new LEGO 10295 Porsche 911 Turbo & 911 Targa revealed earlier today is no exception. In the latest designer video, Mike Psiaki shares his favorite things about the new model, while Carl Merriam explains how a side-project can become a retail product. Also, element designer Yoel Mazur shows the new elements created for the new Porsche.
This is not the first LEGO heavy-detailed vehicle designed by Mike. Back in 2016, 10252 Volkswagen Beetle brought us some very elaborate structures inside the car which made the iconic Beetle possible on this scale. And just two years later, with the action-packed 10262 James Bond Aston Martin DB5 Mike proved that a Creator Expert vehicle can be functional and playable. Today, Mike’s signature P51 AK3 license plate can be found in yet another vehicle set, along with the European version and the Japanese one.
The set will retail for US $149.99 | CAN $199.99 | UK £119.99 and will be first available to LEGO VIP members starting Feb. 16, with regular retail availability starting March 1.
At this scale, Mike has done the F40, Beetle, DB5, Mustang, ECTO-1, so I’m glad he is continuing the Creator Expert lineup with this 911 and I hope he makes many more of these models – it’s my favorite theme.
I wonder why they chose the older generation of 911? My guess is the new 911s would be much harder to shape with bricks, and even with this model they still had to mold a few new parts for the fenders. Or it could be that the newer generation of 911s was already represented with the orange Technic model.
It really seems like they’re trying to stick to “iconic” models for the creator expert line, and like you said they also seem to be doing current vehicles in Technic. I have a few of the older Racers models that are about 1:17 scale and they are nice and very “creator”.
I wish I had started collecting these larger sets when they were new, (including the Caterham 7). Such great vehicles: Beetle, Mustang, Fiat 500, F40, Mini, and now classic 911.
Oh man that ducktail made my heart flutter. I hope the new elements will be made available in different colors soon because there are so many potential 911 variants to build
