2020 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 13

Happy holidays to all of our fellow LEGO builders! As is tradition, we at The Brothers Brick will be opening our advent calendars as we count down to Christmas. We’ll also be sharing commentary on each one, which will be both insightful and hilarious!

This year we have new Harry Potter, Star Wars, City and Friends advent calendars to open. We will be sharing images of the new calendars every day through Christmas, and hope that you’ll join us! Let’s see what there is to open on Day 13.

For Day 13, we opened a beautiful white Christmas tree from Harry Potter. For Star Wars, we were treated to a microscale Consular-class cruiser, as seen in The Phantom Menace.

Bart: Really liking this frozen Christmas tree idea.

CJ: There have been dozens of Christmas tree designs put forth by LEGO over the years, and after a while they do start to feel repetitive. I’m really impressed with this icy version, though. It’s an interesting departure from the norm with a recognizable but non-standard shape. Potter totally earned the holiday point today. On the Star Wars front we get a mirco build of one of the less instantly-recognizable ships. I think it’s meant to be Peppermint-1, an expanded universe candy-cane themed frigate.  So it gets a holiday point. Don’t @ me.

Lino: And this is what ends up on the shelves at most thrift shop post-holiday sales.

Banjamin: Nice Consular-class cruiser! Too bad the droids blew them all up.

Adam: This is my favorite Star Wars ship of all time. Both the Consular-class and the Charger C-70 refit model was just the coolest thing to grace the screen since the Millennium Falcon. Glad to see it in mini form here.

Ed: I never thought I’d say this… especially when there’s a Star Wars vehicle needed to be compared in the same scene… but I’m really digging that tree!!!  Very well thought of… 10 points for Mugglepuffs!

Chris: I love this! Two excellent models for the 13th day of Christmas. I particularly like solution for the gold star on the top of the tree, something that’s always been a little awkward on LEGO Christmas trees.

Short on Christmas dough? The microscale bank from the City advent calendar is open for business! Then go out and buy that waffle maker, as seen here from Friends.

Ed: Ok I’m going to have to say it as it is… both of these are great looking micro builds.

CJ: Another tiny town day for City. And this time everyone can easily identify the building as a bank. The micro tree is cute, and the printed tile could come in handy. That angled plate still feels weird to me, though. The Friends waffle making station is pure win. The table is the same design we saw on day 10’s sweets stand, so there’s some unifying theming going on.  The waffle press itself is a really clever little build, and the batter bottle is an inspired inclusion.

Jasmine: I wonder if you could make a full street of buildings by aligning those wedge plate City microbuilds… And not bad Friends- a working waffle press!

Lino: Need quick cash for your waffle-making scheme? Payday Loans can help. Call 1-800-CASH-NOW!

Benjamin: I had been waffling on whether to like these builds, but I’m banking on them being well-received.

Chris: I love these little micro buildings. And the waffle maker is actually quite good too. It looks like day 13 has winners in all four corners–a real shocker!

Now that both Friends dessert microbuilds are complete, Ron can go make some new friends of his own: waffles and cookies.

Chris: Oh Ron, always raiding the sweets. Getting into both the cookie table and the waffle maker? Should have had a chocolate frog here too…

We’ll be back tomorrow once we work off this sugar rush. Until then, happy building!
