Get all your wizard supplies in the stores of the new LEGO Harry Potter 75978 Diagon Alley set [News]

Today, LEGO reveals the next Harry Potter exclusive set, 75978 Diagon Alley. The new version of the iconic shopping venue consists of four buildings and includes 5,544 pieces, which makes it the 5th biggest LEGO set released so far. The models are accompanied by 14 minifigures, including two characters that have never appeared in any other LEGO Harry Potter set. The set will retail for US $399.99 | 399.99EUR | UK £369.99 beginning September 1st.

Despite its size and price, the set doesn’t belong to the company’s adult portfolio. While other products targeted at adults come in boxes of strict designs, the new Diagon Alley features traditional box design.

Unlike the previous version of the Diagon Alley, which consisted of just three buildings, the new one features six iconic shops — Ollivanders Wand Shop, Scribbulus Writing Implements, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor, Flourish & Blotts bookseller, Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes — and also the Daily Prophet office.

Connected, the four sections of the set create a street of more than 40″/100 cm. It appears to be one of the longest LEGO sets ever designed — just 2 inches longer than LEGO Ideas 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V displayed horizontally.

Just like the biggest LEGO Harry Potter set, 71043 Hogwarts Castle, the new Diagon Alley comes complete with multiple highly-detailed interiors accessible from the back of the models.

With this many shops, it is possible to recreate scenes from multiple books and movies. For example, Ollivanders Wand Shop is based on Harry Potter and the Philosophers / Sorcerer’s Stone, Flourish & Blotts bookstore is borrowed from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. At the same time, Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes first appeared in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Naturally, the set includes all the main characters. Here are the minifigures of Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Draco, and of course, Hagrid. Although the designs of the minifigures are new, unlike those from the new LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71028 Harry Potter Series 2, in this set, kids come with the shortest leg pieces. This means that we are getting no fancy designs of pants or dresses.

Fred, George, and Molly Weasley also come in the new designs. Last time the twins appeared together in the same box was the 2011’s version of the Diagon Alley set. Starting tomorrow, you can also find them among the bags of the new series of collectible minifigures.

Garrick Ollivander, Gilderoy Lockhart, Lucius Malfoy have already appeared in other LEGO Harry Potter sets before. However, Florean Fortescue and the Daily Prophet photographer have never been released as LEGO minifigures before.

The set will retail for US $399.99 | 399.99EUR | UK £369.99 starting tomorrow, September 1st.

LEGO HARRY POTTER DIAGON ALLEY – PRODUCT PRESS RELEASE

THE MAGICAL WORLDS OF LEGO AND HARRY POTTER COME TOGETHER AGAIN WITH NEW LEGO DIAGON ALLEY SET

1st September 2020: Launching today, the spectacular new LEGO® Harry Potter® set allows fans to be transported to the most magical shopping street in the world, now in brick form!

Diagon Alley™ is one of the most iconic locations in the Wizarding World. It’s where Harry Potter gets his first glimpse of the exciting new world he is about to join, as he’s guided through the magical shopping street by Hagrid. And now LEGO and Harry Potter fans alike can build and create the iconic street in their own homes.

The set brings the two worlds together in a magical hybrid: a rich and versatile display model, with a modularity aspect that allows fans to choose how to display the shops (all in a row, swapping them around, or even placing individual shops on different shelves!).
Measuring more than a meter wide and made up of over 5,000 pieces, LEGO Diagon Alley features the famed wizarding world shops packed with authentic details from the movies to truly capture the ambience of the street.

Behind magnificent and detailed storefronts lie intriguing interiors, fascinating features and familiar characters. Fans can recreate some of their favourite moments from the Harry Potter film series including; discovering the wands at Ollivanders™ from Harry Potter and the Philosophers / Sorcerer’s Stone dropping in on Gilderoy Lockhart™’s book-signing event at Flourish & Blotts™ bookstore from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; or obtaining a love potion from Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes™ from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Marcos Bessa, LEGO Harry Potter Design Lead commented: “I love how faithful the final design is to the architectural details in the film. You can barely see some of these buildings zooming past your screen, but we tracked down different photographs from the sets – some of them from nearly 20 years ago – to make sure everything is spot on. Diagon Alley is the biggest set I’ve designed to-date and I am really proud of how it has come together.”

The set also includes 14 minifigures, including new versions of lead characters Harry, Ron, Hermione and of course George and Fred Weasley who have their own joke shop in Diagon Alley. There are also minifigures of Florean Fortescue and the Daily Prophet photographer, who have never been seen in LEGO form before.

With Christmas just around the corner, the LEGO Diagon Alley set makes an impressive and inspiring gift for Harry Potter and LEGO enthusiasts alike.

LEGO® Harry Potter® Diagon Alley™ set is available directly from LEGO Stores and www.LEGO.com/EnterTheMagic from 1st September, 2020

@Peter Towny It appears to be Maya 2016 or newer from the interface. The tool palettes down the side all match up with Maya and that color scheme was introduced in 2016 as far as i know.
