LEGO 10273 Haunted House revealed as next set in the Creator Expert Fairground Collection [News]

Get ready to scream for LEGO’s newest Fairground Collection expansion set, Creator Expert 10273 Haunted House. The 3,231-piece set comes with a working free-fall ride and nine minifigures plus a skeleton. The spooky set will sell for US $249.99 | CAN $299.99 | UK £209.99 and will be available to LEGO VIP members beginning May 20th with general availability starting June 1st.

The haunted house fairground ride opens up to reveal an organ, stained glass windows, a spooky portrait backlit by a light brick, and other terrifying details. The mechanics of the free-fall ride can be seen in the spinning product photo below, including the chain, gears, and flywheels (depicted in trans orange, though they will be black in the set).

Right off the bat, the set’s imposing sleek, black box jumps out as the new norm for LEGO sets targeting adults. According to LEGO, the previous Creator Expert branding style has been retired in favor of a consistent dark look for all packaging of 18+ models (previously seen in the new Star Wars helmets and UCS A-wing).

All new stylized sets will also come with “coffee-table-style building instructions” offering more detail and information than standard LEGO instructions. The back of the box gives us our first peek inside the haunted house and is the only picture available so far showing a clear look at the gearing for the free-fall ride (complete with two wheels only previously available in the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set).

The haunted house stands 26.5 inches tall (68 cm) and both 9 inches wide (25 cm) and deep when closed. The set is the spiritual successor to 10228 Haunted House released in 2012 as part of the Monster Fighters line, though in this version olive green has replaced sand green as the primary color. This new Fairground Collection ride also follows 10261 Roller Coaster released exactly two years ago.

The model opens down the front revealing the ticket booth and central elevator shaft for the free-fall ride. The top window opens automatically to make sure the minifigures get a great view before falling to their doom. The interior includes themed decor winking at past LEGO themes, including an organ, a gold-rimmed portrait that lights up with a hidden sphinx from behind, Egyptian theming (reminiscent of 5978 Sphinx Secret Suprise), and a stash of other playful mini-builds.

According to LEGO, the haunted house is “modeled on Manor Von Barron, the spooky home of one of the world’s greatest villains–Samuel Von Barron.” The name refers to the constantly changing name of Lord Sam Sinister aka Baron Von Baron aka Evil Eye aka Mr. Hates who has appeared as Johnny Thunder’s arch-enemy in the Adventurers Egypt, Dino Island, and Orient Expedition product lines.

The haunted house comes with nine minifigures and a skeleton including two carnival workers in top hats (likely identical twins as only one is depicted below), five riders with appropriately scared faces (one of which is in a wheelchair–a welcome addition making the LEGO fairground more accessible), and two ghosts.

The original 10228 Haunted House also came with two ghosts, so the pair’s inclusion in this new set could be an additional wink and a nod to LEGO history. Additionally, LEGO says that the set features the “Organ of Catarino and the Orb of OGEL” which also shows LEGO is having a bit of fun with names.

The new haunted house is also compatible with LEGO’s Powered Up system allowing the free-fall fairground ride to be programmed and controlled through the app, complete with spooky sounds and screams. However, the two motors and battery box required to automate the set are not included and must be purchased separately.

You can see the free-fall ride in action in this animated video from LEGO.

10273 Haunted House will be available early to LEGO VIP members starting May 20th with general availability beginning June 1st. The 3,231-piece set will sell for US $249.99 | CAN $299.99 | UK £209.99.

PREPARE TO BE SPOOKED WITH THE BRAND-NEW LEGO HAUNTED HOUSE SET

The LEGO Group has announced the LEGO Haunted House, a hair-raising new fairground build for adult thrill-seekers – available from 20th May from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores

[13th May 2020] Gear up for a spooky ride and bring to life the ultimate ghostly fairground experience, with the brand-new LEGO Haunted House set. This latest addition to the LEGO Fairground collection is jam-packed with exciting features to surprise and entertain even the bravest of thrill-seekers.

Modeled on Manor Von Barron, the spooky home of one of the world’s greatest villains – Samuel Von Barron, the new LEGO Haunted House model is full to the brim with spine-tingling details. Its clever design features a fully functional free-fall ride with automatic doors at the top of the tower, giving brave riders a glimpse of the thrilling plummet to come, as well as intricate ghoulish details such as haunted doors and a cursed painting to warn off any trespassers.

To enhance the spooky experience even further and unlock special features, such as a moving elevator, fans can also add LEGO Powered Up components (available separately) and control and amplify the set as they build via LEGO’s Powered Up app.

The 3,231-piece LEGO Haunted House model not only makes an impressive and creepy display piece, standing at over 26.5” (68cm) high, 9” (25cm) wide and 9” (25cm) deep, but also gives fans the chance to get hands-on and immerse themselves in the ghostly world. LEGO builders can open the model’s exterior and enter the ultimate haunted house to discover the features hidden inside – revealing Von Barron’s extensive collection of stolen artifacts which nod to LEGO brick sets of the past, including the Organ of Catarino and the Orb of OGEL.

This brand-new set has been designed specifically with adults in mind – providing an immersive, creative experience for them to re-focus, re-charge and get creative, whether they’re enjoying alone or as a challenging build with friends or younger builders.

The new LEGO Haunted House construction set is the latest example of how the LEGO Group aims to inspire builders of all ages to build, rebuild and get excited by the process of creation. It’s also the first set from the LEGO Fairground Collection to feature the new stylish packaging designed to make it easier than ever for adult fans to find their new build challenge based on their individual passions.

Addressing the new packaging, Senior Marketing Manager Anders Hellegaard Iversen said: “So many of our older builders love the Creator Expert products, as they allow them to show off their passion for the bricks. Whether it’s their favorite film moments, sport icons, travel destinations, buildings, fairgrounds or vehicles, LEGO sets help to bring these to life in brick form. That’s also why we have decided to stop using the Creator Expert branding and, instead, use the new adult-focused packaging design to make it clearer which hobbies or brand products they can relate to. We hope this will make it easier for fans to track down models they would be proud to display once completed. Of course, our product range will continue to include the same advanced-build, collectible products that guarantee hours of building enjoyment for fans.”

The brand-new LEGO Haunted House is available to VIP members from 20th May and for remaining LEGO fans from 1st June, direct from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.

I might have missed the “Organ of Catarino” reference, but the “Orb of OGEL” is a reference to the early 00’s Alpha Team …

Dunno. It’s an 18+ set that looks and feels a lot like a playset that a 12 yo me would like.
