LEGO’s newest Creator Expert vehicle revealed as the Italian classic Fiat 500 [News]

One of the best things that have happened to the LEGO Creator Expert theme over the previous decade is the introduction of large scale vehicle sets. It all started with a fantastic 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van set in 2011. Soon we got a taste of iconic British motorcars with 10242 MINI Cooper MK VII and even got behind the wheel of the charged version of 10265 Ford Mustang. Today, LEGO invites all car enthusiasts on a road trip down the Amalfi Coast with the newest addition to the Creator Expert garage, 10271 Fiat 500 set. The set consists of 960 pieces and will retail for the price of US $89.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £74.99; it will be available directly from LEGO Stores & LEGO.com from March 1, 2020.

The most remarkable thing about the new Fiat 500 model is how sweet and tiny it is. The assembled car measures just over 4” (11cm) high, 9” (24cm) long and 4” (11cm) wide. Definitely, it is not another Imperial Star Destroyer, which requires a dedicated shelf in your living room. Just an empty corner of the office desk should be enough to display the new Fiat 500.

While some other LEGO Creator Expert cars were packed with accessories for a picnic in the woods or by the beach, this Italian icon belongs to an artist. An adorable suitcase can be found attached to the luggage rack in the back of the car. And can you imagine anything more Italian than a painting of a retro Fiat with the Colosseum in the background?

The new Fiat 500 would not be a proper Creator Expert vehicle without a detailed interior, a spare wheel, and opening roof and doors. The playability of the set is quite limited, but this is more than enough for a gorgeous brick-built interior accessory.

Thanks to the model’s uncommon bright light yellow, the set will be a fantastic source of pieces in this particular shade of yellow. A review will reveal all the new pieces and the pieces in new colors. Still, even now, we can spot a couple of recently introduced elements, for instance, the new curved windows introduced in Creator Expert 10272 Old Trafford-Manchester United set just a month ago.

To promote the new Fiat 500 set, LEGO has released a series of vintage advertisement posters featuring the brick-built model. Please enjoy a short gallery below; the car looks very authentic in every picture.

However, the main promotion event took place at Fiat’s home town, Turin, Italy, where LEGO has revealed an incredible life-size 1:1 build of the iconic Fiat 500. Weighing over 400 kgs, the model consists of 189,032 LEGO bricks and one original Fiat 500 steering wheel. At the moment, the model sits among a fleet of vintage Fiat 500s in the Fiat factory, but according to the press release, it will go on a tour LEGO Stores across Italy in March/April.
