LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed mobile game is out today bringing more than 50 iconic LEGO characters to your smartphone [News]

Today, the LEGO Group and Gameloft are celebrating the release of the long-awaited LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed mobile game. Unveiled in May 2019, the game is finally being released on three major platforms and available today in App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft Store.

LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is a free-to-play role-playing game featuring more than 50 LEGO minifigures released over the last 40 years. Fans will be excited to meet such icons as Captain Redbeard from set 6285 Black Seas Barracuda as well as digital copies of some more recent collectible minifigures. The game offers turn-based battles that require quite a bit of strategic planning and proper team management. Building a powerful team is another aspect of the game; you will have to unlock and train new characters before you can defeat yet another gang.

As of now, the game is entirely free; however, the game’s mechanics and gameplay suggest that some monetization will undoubtedly be introduced in the future.

LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed Opens a New RPG Adventure with Beloved LEGO Minifigures – Now Available!

Collect and battle minifigures from over 40 years of LEGO® history featuring most beloved LEGO minifigures!

Paris, February 27th, 2020 – Gameloft, leader in the development and publishing of games, and the LEGO Group are thrilled to announce that the mobile game LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is now available on the App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft Store. LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is the first turn-based Role-Playing Game (RPG) from the LEGO Group and allows players to collect and playfully battle with over 50 characters from over 40 years of LEGO minifigure history. Bringing together minifigures old and new, LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed gives LEGO fans a new way to play with the minifigures that they know and love. To ensure that as many LEGO fans as possible can enjoy this RPG adventure, the game is designed to be cross-platform, meaning that players are able to save, resume and battle against their friends regardless of the device they play on.

Each minifigure in the game comes with a unique set of abilities and skills, so players can build bespoke minifigure teams to tackle a series of exciting turn-based RPG challenges. Players can explore regions in the game inspired by iconic, fan-favorite LEGO sets such as those from LEGO City or LEGO Castle, and can even collect and unlock digital versions of real-world sets. The digital versions of these real-world LEGO sets feature the original box art and give players the chance to build some of their favorite sets digitally following real-life instructions!

LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is set in the ruins of Piptown, a small village that players are tasked to rebuild as they start a fantastic journey filled with epic quests and strategic battles. In true RPG fashion, players will have the chance to team up with allies and make friends with iconic minifigures such as the wizard Majisto, the friendly Hiker and the powerful Chicken Suit Guy – all who bring their own unique skill set to help overcome challenges. Will players team up with Basil the Batlord, the chilly Commander Cold, the upbeat Fitness Instructor, or will they turn to other minifigures new and old as they explore this strangely familiar world? Even the beloved LEGO minifigure Captain Redbeard from Set 6270 (1989) is here to lend a hand…er, hook to rebuild Piptown!

Gameloft Toronto worked closely with the LEGO Group’s archive team in Billund, Denmark, to study the full range of minifigures from the first minifigure that was created in 1978 all the way through to the newest Series 19 Minifigures that launched late in 2019. Vintage building instructions were also used to ensure every tiny detail from the original minifigure figures were recreated perfectly in digital form.

“LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed builds on the warm nostalgia of LEGO play that people experienced in their youth and couples this with the excitement of bringing these minifigures into a proper RPG experience,” said Thomas Aurick, VP of Creation at Gameloft. “We wanted to celebrate the multiple generations of LEGO minifigures and highlight a variety of characters from past to present. We are proud to bring new life and spark to some of these characters that have never been in a game before.”

Sean McEvoy, Vice President of LEGO Games at the LEGO Group said: “Gameloft has done an amazing job highlighting each minifigure’s unique personality and enhancing the details, characteristics, and charm of some well-loved minifigures from the last 40+ years. This is a delightful new way to play with our minifigures in a game that celebrates fun, creativity, and humor.”

I tried it a few days ago, and hit a paywall on my second day, meaning I couldn’t progress or level up my figs without either paying or waiting several days to “gather resources”. It is not totally free, you really need to make those microtransactions to make any sort of progress.

There really isn’t much of a game to be played either… When you enter a battle you either win by a clear margin or get totally crushed.

Its just a shallow cash-grab that I uninstalled on the second day.

Usual Gameloft collect characters game reskined with Lego. I like the reskin – it is funny and creative, but playing one of their games you played them all. It is worse than casino. In casino you can at least win something ocassionally. Playing Gameloft games you are just wasting time and money. Yes, the game is funny untill you hit paywall, and that’s way too quickly.

Having fun with this game, so far. I still play similar games just like this. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Marvel Strike Force, DC Legends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Legends, etc. I have fun playing them all. I’m really far in each, with tons of fully built up characters, at Max 7 Stars, fully geared up, and leveled up to the max level, while being able to beat all of the hard levels to collect even more gear to help level up everybody else.

And, I have never paid a single cent for any of the games, and don’t plan on spending a single cent on this new Lego game. There is NO “Pay Wall” in these types of games, as some people like to claim. Just impatient people who like to complain for the sake of complaining. You don’t have to pay anything to play, and you can still advance really really far into these types of games. I will definitely keep playing, and get really far in this game.

Now, I have played multiple Gameloft games, over the years. I find that I don’t typically stay with them for too too long, tho some I have liked and stayed with for a while. But this game I plan on staying for quite some time, as I find it really fun, and, knowing that I won’t have to pay anything to advance even further, I can just enjoy the game for what it is, and progress as well as I do in the other games that similar to this that I have listed.
