Hands on with LEGO Minions: Rise of Gru sets at Toy Fair New York [News]

Live from Toy Fair New York, we have close-up photos of the five upcoming LEGO sets from Minions: Rise of Gru announced yesterday. The sets include buildable Minions complete with fun interiors, a Chinese temple, new minifigures, and more.

These five Minions sets range in price from US $19.99 to $49.99 and will be available starting April 27th.

75551 Brick-Built Minions and Their Lair | 876 pieces
US $49.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £44.99

The brick-built Minions set comes with two buildable figures of Stuart and Kevin. The eyes can turn, and the figures open up to reveal a hidden lair inside each.

The front and back of the bright blue and yellow boxes show the functions, hidden lairs, and how the Kevin figure can be rebuilt into a third Minion, Bob. (That means if you want all three on display at the same time, you’ll have to purchase two copies of the set.)

The hidden lair inside Stuart contains a bedroom with several nefarious items for evil-doing, along with a gear that rotates his eye.

Kevin’s lair is a laboratory and computer room, with a banana and newly colored branch element in black for his hair.

Kevin can also be re-built into another third Minion, Bob.

Bob’s hidden lair contains a Kung Fu practice room.

The set also comes with three minifigure-sized Minions, showing each in their element: Stuart in pajamas, Bob in a Kung Fu outfit, and Kevin in a hard hat.

75550 Minions Kung Fu Battle | 310 pieces
US $39.99 | CAN $49.99 | UK £34.99

The Kung Fu Battle comes with a Chinese temple, a dragon puppet, and three minifigures. The temple features ornate decorations, a wooden training dummy, fireworks shooters on the roof, and multi-colored bananas.

The back of the model reveals a launching function and two closeable wood panels with red gates attached.

The front and back of the bright blue and yellow box show a more stylized LEGO box than seen in recent years including using a new font for the set name.

Kung Fu Battle comes with three minifigures including Stuart and Kevin in Kung Fu outfits and the stout Otto along with a Chinese dragon. The eyes are printed on 1×1 round tiles, and Kevin comes with a new element for his hair.

75549 Unstoppable Bike Chase | 136 pieces
US $19.99 | CAN $24.99 | UK £17.99

The Unstoppable Bike Chase comes a decked-out motorbike and is the only set that comes with a Gru minifigure.

The front and back of the box show the Minions using bananas as boomerangs and red side car/rocket being pulled behind the motorcycle.

The set comes with three minifigures including Minions Stuart and Bob and an exclusive Gru figure with his iconic scarf and medium legs.

75547 Minion Pilot in Training | 119 pieces
US $29.99 | CAN $39.99 | UK £24.99

The Minion Pilot Training is a 4+ set that comes with a small private plane and two minifigures.

The plane’s top pops off to reveal a pilot’s cockpit, single-seat cabin and a bathroom.

The box shows the adjustable flaps on the plan as well as a loading ramp in the back.

The set comes with two minifigures including Stuart in a pilot’s uniform and a bag of peanuts on a printed tile and Bob in his traditional blue overalls.

75546 Minions in Gru’s Lab | 87 pieces
US $19.99 | CAN $24.99 | UK £17.99

The final set in this wave includes another 4+ set showing Gru’s lab (oddly without Gru, however).

The boxes show the set comes with an orange slide, red roller coaster track ladder, a flying vehicle and two minifigures.

Gru’s lab comes with two Minion minifigures including Kevin and Otto, plus a healthy serving of bananas.
