Throughout Batman’s illustrious career, he has driven a wide range of Batmobiles — and LEGO fans have built several wonderful representations over the years. While many people might point to the 1989 Batmobile as their favorite, mine would have to be Adam West’s ride from the 1960s Batman TV series. Custom car legend George Barris owned the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car and modified it into a bat-classic. Therefore, I squealed like a bat with glee when I saw Lucas‘ LEGO version of this iconic car.

Because the base for the Batmobile was a 1950s car, curves and fins make up a significant part of its visual identity. Lucas has brilliantly captured this appearance by harnessing the power of slopes, curved elements and angled wedge plates. The fins are spot-on, cleverly utilizing red blades tilted at an angle. It feels more true to the appearance of the car than the one-stud-wide elements used in the Batmobile from LEGO’s Batman Classic TV Series Batcave set. From front to back, it looks like the perfect ride for the caped crusader.

The back even lifts open to reveal a compartment for Batman’s famous shark repellant.

Of course, it has a finished interior as well. It’s here that we notice stickers and a few design cues from the Batmobile in LEGO’s 1966 Batcave set, such as the parts used for the bubble windshields. Lucas acknowledged that he was inspired by many builds, but I feel like there are enough details in the finished model illustrating how he made it his own. Now, to the Batcave!
