Take a sip of ’90s pop-culture with the new LEGO Ideas 21319 Central Perk set from Friends [News]

It’s been 25 years since the day Rachel entered the doors of the Central Perk Café dressed as a bride, kicking off the story of the six most famous friends in New York City. Recently, The LEGO Group has been doing an excellent job celebrating anniversaries of the most remarkable events (such as the moon landing) and the 25th anniversary of the US TV show Friends is yet another fantastic occasion for one special set, LEGO Ideas 21319 Central Perk. The model of the iconic coffee-house consists of 1,070 pieces and comes with 7 minifigures of the cast. The set will be available for purchase beginning September 1 and will retail for $59.99 US | $89.99 CAN | £64.99 UK.

The set recreates the shooting stage designed to be the café where the main characters were often seen hanging out throughout all 10 seasons of the show. The design of the location features a lot of authentic interior details as well as the exterior of the building, which can also be seen in many episodes. The model measures over 4″ (11cm) high, 11″ (29cm) wide and 8″ (22cm) deep.

Inside the café, there is everything you need to recreate some of the most iconic moments of the show. First of all, in the center of the scene is the main seating area including a sofa, armchair, 2 chairs, and a table. Around the sofa are the service counter, some extra seats and tables, a bunch of authentic decorations and, of course, a stage for musical performances, because can you imagine the Central Perk without Smelly Cat as performed by Phoebe?

One of the set’s great features is the removable sitting area. The area has just enough space to sit all the show’s characters around the table.

No doubt, the set would make no sense without the star of the show. Seven brand new minifigures are Ross Geller, Rachel Green, Chandler Bing, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, Phoebe Buffay, and Gunther.

$60 for over 1000 pieces?? I don’t think there’s ever been a licensed set for a price like that

  2. David

    Is the price correct?
At first, I didn’t care for the set (not a Friends fan, I may have watched two episodes in my life), but for this price! I’ll get it just for the café!

Lego Pop Trivia of the Week.

Before the Lego F·R·I·E·N·D·S set, and the Lego Friends theme, there was the Lego Friends game (CD-ROM produced by the Russian Company Ivanoff in 1999).

This game was based on the Scala theme, and featured the teenager band Tuff Stuff trying to break through in small town Sunnyville. However, the CD-ROM also included clips with the real British band Loose Chippins, who thought that it could be a good career move. Loose Chippins also released a single (that failed to chart) with a cover of the song “I’ll Be There For You”, originally performed by The Rembrandts, best known as the… theme song for the popular American sitcom F·R·I·E·N·D·S.

(And I feel like we’ve gone full circle.)

Where’s the Heartlake City coffee cup with that many cups in set? Missed opportunity for a meta easteregg.

probably a ton of tiny pieces, but at that price, they must be banking on moving A LOT of units of this
