An enigmatic maze

Sometimes you don’t need a wide breadth of pieces to build a great LEGO model. You just need a large quantity of a handful of elements. That seems to be the case with this eye-catching maze by Dutch builder Erik Eti Smit. Using a repeating pattern of tan arches, curved slopes, and striking red slopes, Erik has crafted a stunning maze for some hapless dwarves.

And those dwarves are too cute. Made from a variety of red microfigures from the LEGO games theme, they sport very tall pointy hats, and I definitely want them populating my garden maze.

The maze is hard to see when admiring the architecture from the side (or inside, in the case of the dwarves), but when viewed from the top it all becomes clear.

Here’s a parting shot of the mesmerizingly repeating architecture. I particularly like how Erik has incorporated elements as new as the white 1×4 brick with wallpaper design from 2016, and as old as the rare 1-wide windows from the late 1960s.
