The Cambrian Period was the first geological period of the Paleozoic era, lasting from 541 million to 485.4 million years ago. This time in earth’s history witnessed an explosion in the appearance of multicellular organisms like those represented by these LEGO sea creatures built by Luis Peña. Each one is a prehistoric work of art worthy of display in a museum.

Luis illustrates the grim realities of the food chain with this model of an anomalocaris in pursuit of a trilobite.

Luis’ trilobite comes in two sizes. With the bigger one, I love how the legs are pointed toward the back and indicative of moving along the ocean floor. The texture of the animal’s back is also convincing.

Next up are a nautiloid (front) and ammonoid (back). The ammonoid features an impressive pearl gold shell and outstretched tentacles.

The nautiloid has gone jellyfish hunting, and it’s too bad because Luis’ jellyfish looks beautiful in translucent blue elements. The power blast representing the top of the aquatic animal is a clever use for that element.
