2018 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 21

Welcome to Day 21 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO Star WarsLEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2018 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.

If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. Will Day 21 be fun?

For Day 21, we have a speeder bike from Star Wars, a candy cane clock from City, and a pair of present ornaments from Friends.

Dave: I think that speeder bike is about as good as you are going to get at this scale. It is certainly better than the 2014 advent version. (Personally I think 75532 Scout Trooper and Speeder is the best LEGO rendition.)  The City candy cane clock features one of my favorite new prints, the classic clock-face. That piece has only come in a few sets including two big ones like 10255 Assembly Square and 71040 Disney Castle. And those Friends presents are just adorable, plus you get two ornaments in a single day!

Andrew: This speeder bike looks like it slammed into a tree on Endor and got squished! Still, it’s adorable as a “chibi” model. Once again, I’m unconvinced by whatever the City model is supposed to be, though the brick-built presents in the Friends calendar are pretty great.

Matt: Hop on your STAR WARS speeder bike because it’s time to head to the CITY and buy some candy canes–they are the perfect gifts for your FRIENDS. (But seriously, all the candy canes around my place remain uneaten for at least six months!)

ChrisStar Wars shines yet again with a brilliant micro model. This tiny speeder bike is so cute. Now who can build us a good-looking Scout Trooper to scale with it?
The candy cane clock suffers from the perennial problem of LEGO candy canes: the bands of color are just stripes, not twists. The presents aren’t bad, considering the bow wraps all the way around. Not my cup of tea though.

Edwinder: Pew pew pew! And furry Ewoks! (Sorry, that’s all I can think of when I see speeder bikes.) The clock-face just reminds me of the Doomsday Clock since it is so close to midnight. And for the presents, I need a bunch of these! I’d fill these with a single M&M and give them out to my office colleagues… if they were hollow which they aren’t.

Rod: I agree with Chris — this speeder bike lovely. Nice use of the “barista piece” for the front prongs. I’d love to see a micro Scout Trooper to go with it. The presents are nice, but the clock is just kinda meh.

Luka: The speeder bike is an amazing build that I can imagine many people keeping on their shelf long after the advent is over. The clock piece on the City candy cane is great, even if the cane itself is not all that convincing. The Friends presents are simple, but a staple of the advent calendar series for a good reason. Who would not want these on their Christmas tree?

The pieces I got today weren’t the right ones to make to make the speeder. Anyone else found this?
