2018 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 10

Welcome to Day 10 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO Star WarsLEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2018 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.

If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. What will we open for Day 10?

For Day 10, we have a blaster from Star Wars, a candle ornament from Friends, and mini-soccer goals.

Edwinder: The Star Wars designers decided to create a mechanical Red-Nosed Rudolph! I think it turned out quite well. If that’s a candle, I’m disappointed. The recent candle flame element that’s been introduced is perfect use here! As for the two goal posts, I think it’s a long way from scoring a win here.

Nick: What’s a Star Wars set from this decade without a stud shooter? The goals could benefit in playability by replacing the green 2×2 square plates with 2×2 corner plates and opening up the goal. I know if I were a kid with this advent calendar, I’d want to play soccer with the minifigures and try to score goals. This change would make that easier.

Andrew: Ah, the requisite stud shooter emplacement, though now that Edwinder notes its resemblance to Rudolph, that’s all I can see!

Daniel: That is one Rudolph that won’t be called any names if all of the other reindeer know what’s good for them. I am also very underwhelmed by the candle ornament, feels like a major fail to not use flame elements here.

Chris: I know Star Wars has to include a firing blaster, but it’s disappointing when that’s all you get for a model one day. Or maybe 8-year-olds are thrilled by this? The candle is barely recognizable as such, and the soccer goals are a wee bit small for my taste.

Dave: Don’t let that candle fool you. The topmost white piece, the round 2×2 with pin holes is brand new, only appearing in 10261 Roller Coaster and 10262 Aston Martin (and we’ve already seen quite a few more in the “snowman” build from Day 5.

Edwinder: Rose gets a little angry here, I hope she doesn’t blow the two kids into smithereens. That would go against the Christmas spirit! I’m now seeing the play value of the goal posts with the minifigures. I’m going to yet again wish that a better looking ball was used instead.

Andrew: Now I want to see that stud-shooter pulling a sleigh!

Chris: I don’t think Rose plays fair. Or maybe the girl was trying to desert her (goal) post.
