It looks very good but i’m disappointed it’s not the whole castle. Even the parts we get are cutaways. Had it been a smaller scale build of the entire castle, i would have bought it in a heartbeat, but now i’m not sure. AND if they come out with another bit of the castle in this scale next year, we’re talking about thousands of dollars to complete it. meh

They should have included Hagrid as a micro fig or even a new mold, he would have looked cool next to all the nano figs.

Boooooo to Lego for making this a microscale castle, bad move. At first look it was gonna be a must have, now it’s a hard pass

  4. Bear

Anything micro scale is disappointing…why is everyone excited about building some other kid’s highschool??

No thanks – LEGO lost out on my $$$ when they decided not to produce that third wave of Lord of the Rings sets. (No Gondor or Minas Tirith sets!) Instead of producing this minifigure scale set, I wish they would just stick to building several smaller but more detailed sets that together form the whole Hogwarts castle. I hope they have planned far ahead to continue this line in a 2nd wave for the main sets.

Seems pretty cool fro microscale. And, not a bad price either considering how many new prints/stickers appear to be in this set. I could be wrong, but I believe 6,000 pieces to $400 is the best price per piece ratio in Lego history.

    @Paul

I’m pretty sure those LOTR sets were just rumors. They were too good to be true. and, to this day I can only find a handful of reports on them. However, I was disappointed, as you were.

I’m no expert on building hogwarts out of legos, or anything, but I just have one question. Where is the rest of the castle? We didn’t get just half of the Millenium Falcon, or half of the Taj Mahal. I’m quite certain that true car fans would be pretty upset if LEGO only made half of an Aston Martin.
My thoughts are; they just came out with the sets that have the playability factor at the mini figure scale. Now they want to come out with something that really showcases hogwarts’ true beauty, and they’re still caught up on playability!
27 microfigures?!?! Is this LEGO or Polly pocket, I’m confused. I probably am alone on this, but I think they should have left the interior scenes to the playable sets and dedicated this set to the full castle in an architectural style. Not unlike the one found at the following link https://flickr.com/pho…/159890103@N04/sets/72157693182433694
That I tried about 100 times to submit to LEGO ideas (where in I did several times mention that the only mini figures associated should be the four founders, and it still was under 8,000 pieces using no stickers, just beautiful legos building beautiful hogwarts, and i was rejected)
just one more thing. Hagrid’s hut and the whomping willow look like a space station/alien scene. Who on earth even approved that!? Did they see that part of the set when approving it or did it slip in by accident? I hope it was the latter.
Ok, I’ve said my peace. There are a lot of really cool things in this set. I’m hoping they come out with a complimentary set that includes the clock tower, the astronomy tower, the quad, the transfiguration courtyard, the owlry, the quidditch pitch, the wooden bridge, the lake, the greenhouses, and the forbidden forest. But maybe that’s asking too much, even if I did drop exactly that and the most perfect LEGO model of hogwarts ever created right in their lap. Sorry I thought I was done.
And that moving staircase! White!?…white railings? I’m sorry are we going for a yule ball theme there. Ya couldn’t just print that piece in tan? Really? How many stickers can you count in this set? I just counted 31. Was that really necessary, this set literally has a sticker book included, 27 Polly pockets, and only half of a very iconic building. Is this even lego anymore?

I think most people agree that your version is great, Joshua and if I built it this way I would be as pissed as you are but please try to be a little less arrogant. And don’t say Legos. It’s Lego goddammit!

Joshua makes some good points, and his model is better in many ways and the official set is better in other ways. I like the fact that LEGO went with a microscale model, but part of me saw it and thought “ok, I guess I’ll need to buy two if I want to complete Hogwarts, and I’ll want to make part of the lake, quidditch pitch, greenhouses etc so I’ll need extra parts”.

There’s no pleasing everyone, so I’ll be expanding my set as a project this winter. It’s likely to be a hybrid between the official set and Joshua’s excellent rendition.

Nice to say the comment section is (mostly) filled with the cries of angry manchildren, especially Joshua. Embarassing, and a good argument to maybe discipline your children so thry don’t grow up to be entitled, negative little twerps. God, the only fandom more toxic than Lego these days is Star Wars. Why not start a petition to get Lego’s CEO fired because you didn’t get your way? Or a better suggestion: grow a pair and act like an adult. Right now you are an embaraasment to mankind, not just a disappointment to your family.

I recently rewatched all the HP movies, and all the bonus features, from the 2016 limited edition release. In one of them, they explained all of the changes that Hogwarts went through from one movie to the next. In HP1, they didn’t have the budget to build sets for everything, so much of the movie involved location shoots. They explained that this is why so much of Hogwarts doesn’t look like it’s part of the same castle. The person who designed the look of Hogwarts wasn’t happy with the finished result, and heavily modified it for HP2. In HP3, the new director felt Hogwarts would be located in Scotland, so they did some location shoots there that resulted in the bridge and the standing stones being added to Hogwarts. Meanwhile, the Whomping Willow was relocated from one of the courtyards to the grounds surrounding the castle. The books weren’t even all written when they started filming, so several set pieces from the later movies were never conceived of until they had a few movies in the can. So, when someone claims it looks incomplete, I’d have to ask them, “based on which movie?” I’m pretty sure the castle structure itself is based on the first movie, with the Whomping Willow thrown in as a bonus. If that’s true, it’s probably very accurate to what was seen in the first movie, but increasingly divergent from what’s seen as the movies progress.

Nice looking display set, but I’d rather they keep releasing modular sets you can add on to the Great Hall set to start building a bigger – and playable – castle. The micro figures look odd ot me when in location. Just a strange compromise

Pretty cool, but the price is too much for me until I win the lottery ?. About the only “flaw” I see is the lack of a Hagrid. A microfig would have been perfect, but one of the new “baby” figs would also have worked. Oh, and they’re also stupid fleshies. Canary yellow for life!
