2017 LEGO Advent Calendars: Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO City, LEGO Star Wars, and LEGO Friends 2017 advent calendars along with commentary from our team.

AdventCalendarDay04

If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump and posted in the evening every day, so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. Let’s see what Day 4 has in store.

For Day 4, we have a chair and lamp from City, a blaster cannon from Star Wars, and a bunny stand from Friends.

Day 04 1

Chris: Is that a bus stop for City? Or a tiny vignette of a reading room? In any case, Star Wars proves yet again that it’s got the best models (my own bias towards Star Wars notwithstanding). The legs on this model are great, employing the new 1×1 rounded handle plates. The Friends theme picks up a little here, with a cute archway and wreath, and a carrot. I think this is a tiny hutch for yesterday’s rabbit.

Dave: Today’s City build is lacking, especially since the only City minifigure we’ve received so far is a young boy who can’t bend his legs to sit down. The Star Wars blaster cannon is beautiful, and I use those rounded handles in nearly everything I build, especially foliage and larger-scale trees. As for Friends, we have our first red and green holiday wreath and another magenta jumper. Yes!

Edwinder: Finally! A constant theme: what furniture would one have in a new home? The City dweller would have a nice sofa to rest and read. The Friends would dress up their fireplace with a wreath, and of course, every Rebel’s dream, a wonderful turret to shoot down unwanted Christmas caroling Stormtroopers at your door.

Luka: The City build goes very well as part of the overall display that these calendars tend to end up with, and the Friends build offers a nice selection of parts, especially the azure studs and the ever-useful brackets. The Star Wars turret has some amazing pieces, but it would be more impressive if I had not recently purchased 200 of the leg hinge pieces. As far as the construction goes though, I am not overly impressed (although this is more due to higher standards than comparison between the three builds seen here).

Day 04 2

Chris: Because we’re 12, that’s why.

Dave: I think this photo typifies the never-ending LEGO advent battle between the sleek Star Wars builds and the… ahem… lackluster Friends builds. The carrot gun flare is a stroke of genius, though.

Edwinder: My oh my oh my… who or what made Sabine so mad? City dweller John seems like he’s the first victim of the carrot cannon, and the next in line is our friend Jane. I’m rooting for Jane this round! But I’m afraid her foam loaded Nerf shooter can’t take down the carrot cannon.

Luka: Kid in the back: “Yay, I am dead!”

Daniel: I love all the spent projectiles piling up on the Friends side. Maybe her gun is actually a water pistol?

  1. Flip

The barrel with the carrot is supposed to be attached on the actual gun-part, not the scope hahahaha.
