Last weekend saw thousands of LEGO fans descend upon London’s Docklands to visit BRICK 2015, the UK’s largest LEGO show, now in its second year. The Brothers Brick were there, and here’s a roundup of some of the coolest models we saw.
Builders from across the UK and Europe brought some amazing displays, including a number of models previously featured here. The enormous Hadrian’s Wall layout, the stunning recreation of Her Majesty’s Theatre, and Lasse Vestergard’s little gem History of the World. It was a genuine pleasure to see these all “in the brick”.
But onto other things, like the Brick Abyss from a trio of Swiss builders. A huge magical steampunk island archipelago with motorised elements, lighting, and smoke machines, the Abyss display was mobbed by kids and adults alike for the entire weekend…
Lots of visitor attention was lavished on this beast of a Titanic build from Bright Bricks (photo courtesy of Jon Hall). For anyone who saw Bright Brick’s fantastic recreation of the Queen Mary last year, this was another beautiful ship model, with impressive shaping and detailing as well as scale…
I also loved these Looney Tunes models built by Annie Diment. Great fun.
Dutch builder Caspar was showing off his Whale Rock Lighthouse but also brought along this new build of some typically Dutch suburban homes. I really liked the house design itself and the surrounding foliage, but it was the off-the-grid angling on the base which made this model pop…
Cesar Soares‘ enchanted forest layout was a massive hit with show visitors – hardly surprising as it features a whole bunch of buildings which have graced the pages of The Brothers Brick previously as individual creations. It was a veritable Greatest Hits collection of the “colorful fantasy” building style…
This great Asterix layout was another Portuguese 0937 collaborative build which caught my eye. The Gaulish village sat at the heart of a larger display featuring Roman camps, unfortunate pirate vessels, and an enormous Egyptian pyramid. For a fan of the books, this was a huge treat…
My personal “Best In Show” was this beautiful F-4J Phantom II built by James Cherry . Displayed alongside a hugely-impressive chrome P-51D Mustang and a lovely X-Wing, this might have struggled to be noticed. But with lovely detailing and 5 motors driving working flaps, this properly stood out for me. The model was completed just in time for BRICK, but James has promised to let me know when he’s posting his own pictures. I’ll definitely be covering this baby in more detail in a future post…
Finally, my favorite moment of the entire show is captured in this image – The Brothers Brick’s very own Elspeth in a clash of the Wonder Women. This photo has had me laughing to myself all week…
