Mickey Mouse is coming back to Duplo [News]

After recent leaks that 2016 would bring us a Disney-themed Collectible Minigifures line, we now have some confirmation that there is going to be more of everyone’s favourite mouse in the LEGO world. On LEGO’s official Instagram account, this short Mickey animation was posted:

Get ready for a visit from a very special #LEGODUPLO guest! We are so excited!

A video posted by LEGO (@lego) on

The brief looped video shows a rough outline of a Mickey Mouse Duplo minifigure. While Mickey Mouse and co. have had the LEGO treatment before, that was 15 years ago in 2000. The “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” also includes Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck, so expect to see those soon.

Actually, there was a set released this year, the 10597: Mickey & Minnie Birthday Parade; there was also a block set before that a year or two before. These will most likely continue the series. Hopefully, they may work out minifig scale.

^In addition to that, there were http://brickset.com/sets/10531-1/Mickey-Mouse-and-Friends in 2012. Not LEGO or Duplo minifigures, but still LEGO Duplo.

As cute as this animation is, it surprises me that it was considered worthy of a Brothers Brick news article, considering how other much more significant LEGO Group social media events like the Bionicle Mask Maker Challenge (https://www.facebook.com/LEGOBionicle/videos/1639740362933707/?permPage=1) have been sort of glossed over aside from highlighting some of the entries in regular MOC posts.

^ If our readership showed more interest in Bionicle when we did cover it, we’d certainly cover it more. But take a look at publicly visible things like the number of likes and shares on any given Bionicle post compared to everything else we blog, and that should be a good indication of how much our audience is interested in Bionicle. In other words, not covering Bionicle more is based on hard numbers from our audience, not a matter of lack of interest by our contributors. That said, we’re trying to broaden our news coverage, so thanks for pointing that out!
