Friday Night Fights – Concept Art Ships

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights. Tonight we dive into the world of Concept Art turned into LEGO. A lot of builders will use reference photos of cars and buildings to build their models. There’s a small subset of sci-fi builders which will use Concept Art as a basis of their creations. Let’s go to the tale of the tape.

In the white corner, we have Alexander (Malydilnar) who used this concept as inspiration for his Talon fighter:

In the blue corner, we have Jake who used used this concept as inspiration for his ship:

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding, by way of comment, which ship is a cooler Concept Art turned LEGO. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Exo Suits, Ilya won a close 3-2 with his BAR Exo Suit. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

This isn’t an easy choice. Both ships are incredibly well built, but there can only be one winner, so my vote goes to the white corner.

I’m going to have to go with the Talon fighter. I think both models are really good representations of their concept art so I am going to go with the one I liked better at first glance.

This was a hard one, but I’m fonna go with the blue corner. I really like the overall shape.

Hmmm. I really would like to give some props to the red corner but the wings jutting out from the side are bugging me. I follow both these great builders on Flickr but in the end I have to go with Jake on this one. Blue wins.

I feel the white corner does only a “*good*” job of representing the concept art, while Jake totally nailed it. There’s one thing that seriously, seriously bothers me about Jake’s build, though– the choice of blue. Looking at the concept art, something more vibrant really should have been used in the place of sand blue… Maybe that aquamarine-ish color that’s been popping up in Friends sets lately? IDK.

On the whole, though, while I dig the white corner’s cockpit design, the blue corner’s faithfulness to the concept art nailed it.

@anonymous bob: It looks like medium blue to me, but I agree that azure would have worked nicely.

I’m voting blue corner, mostly because I like the design a lot more. I’m not a huge fan of ships that look like jet planes with extra lumps added everywhere. Both are great builds, though.
