A Bear at the Fair: the Fighting Pits

Gideon_83 has made this fantastic cutaway vignette of a medieval middle-eastern fighting pit, wherein man and beast face each other in a barbaric clash.

His next most recent model—a more placid look at the toll the shifting desert sands take—strikes my fancy as well. It’s a beautiful use of a few colors and just a few simple pieces.

The first one reminds me of a scene from this past season of Game of Thrones. Wonder if that was the inspiration.

I love this. Its a subtal feature, but the ratio of the dome size to the rest of the building is perfect! Well done!

lyricsguru: No, I don’t think it is CG. It looks like real bricks to me, just very well photographed.

Thatguy: I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. I almost titled it “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” until I saw it had nothing to do with GoT.

Chris: Thanks for blogging my builds! You are correct, it is real ABS in both cases. (I would never have had the patience to make all that minifig posing in LDD).

The initial inspiration for the bear fight actually came from a Roman mosaic, but a certain song kept appearing in my head as I was building and photographing. The title of the build is probably also a semi-conscious ASoIaF influence.
