Bubbly clouds of goodness

I like the fun little details in this diorama of a hike in Switzerland by Erik Smit (.eti), but by far my favorite thing is the cartoony clouds in the sky. The use of microfigs to portray distant hikers is also fun.

Some may object to the busyness of the diorama and use of big ugly rock pieces, but the charms far outweigh those concerns for me.

It’s true, I was a little put off by the busyness at first sight, but I think it’s almost entirely a factor of harsh lighting and not the model itself. I’ll bet if this were lightboxed up or just seen in person it would resolve that issue.

MikeRayhawk, what’s lightboxing? – Anyway, I purposely used lighting that creates no shadows, so that you can easily see the entire diorama. But well, come to see it for yourself in Berlin!

It surprises me a bit that people find it busy – I personally feared that not enough is going on in the middle, so I almost added an ibex or so…

As to burps – I am a fan of them, I admit. That, and I don’t own enough gray bricks to make the rocks from scratch. I don’t like rocks that use slopes very much (though they can look pretty awesome too, if built well)

I definitely don’t have a problem w/ BURPS and having a lot going on, I just know those are issues for some people. A ibex would be very cool though.
