Lego Simpsons House 71006 [Review]

The Lego Simpsons House was only revealed less than than two weeks ago and it’s already available for sale. The set includes 2523 pieces and retails for $199.99. You can order it right now from the LEGO Shop.

Here is my summary of the highlights of the set, which are elaborated in the review video below.

Pros:

  • Minifigure heads are made of hard plastic (as opposed to the rubbery kind) and the printing is precise.
  • Colorful and detailed interior, each room is a vignette
  • Features some useful building techniques
  • Furnitures are removable and all rooms are tiled
  • Good price per piece ratio

Cons:

  • It’s the only Simpsons set and it’s not cheap

This is an unusual set in that it doesn’t fit in line with the other sets by Lego. It is a licensed stand-alone exclusive that suits the tastes of serious builders. At the same time, the numerous details make this a great playset as well for the kids. The interior is the true highlight of the set, featuring numerous well-designed details and detachable furniture. The colorful pieces and tiles are great additions to one’s collection. I cannot think of flaws pertaining to this set except that it is pricey; even so, it contains enough pieces to justify the cost. Since this is a Lego exclusive, you will not be able to buy it for cheaper than the retail price, all the more reasons to get the set now.

Unveiled: 71006 The Simpsons House [News]

The first images have escaped into the wild of the flagship set for the upcoming official Simpsons line of LEGO sets.

UPDATE: Official information about 71006 The Simpsons House is now available.

71006 The Simpsons House is the cartoon family’s Springfield home, a sprawling suburban manor. The set includes the five Simpsons family members: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, as well as their neighbor Ned Flanders, each with their awkward amalgamation of uniquely-molded head and classic minifig body. The house looks straight from the pages of the Creator theme of domiciles, though this one is a bit bigger, clocking in with an enormous 2523 pieces, which puts it easily in the $250 price range, although the price has not been confirmed yet. The residence hinges open to reveal a full interior, complete with tiled floors. It’s hardly an inspiring design for the LEGO aficionado, but it is, I suppose, fairly accurate to the Simpsons’ humdrum suburbanite existence, and fans of the show will likely find lots to love. Let us know in the comments what you think: Is this set a hit or a miss?

LEGO negotiating Simpsons license with Fox [News]

According to Brickset’s translation of a Danish news article, LEGO Marketing Director Mads Nipper has confirmed that LEGO is in negotiations with Fox to license long-running TV show The Simpsons.

The Simpsons

The Wall Street Journal also quotes LEGO Spokesman Jan Christiansen as confirming the negotiations, but with the vague caveat, “We are continuously looking into new collaboration possibilities.” And a 20th Century Fox spokesperson says, “We can confirm that discussions with Lego have taken place but there are no initiatives to announce at this time.”

As Huw puts it, “It’s rather surprising that news that negotiations are taking place has become public as normally such things are veiled in secrecy until the contract is signed.” Indeed. We ourselves generally hold off reporting on set rumors, but we’d be remiss in our news duties if we didn’t pass this along to our readers, given the confirmation from three separate, official sources.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments.

Spider-pig, Spider-pig...

In response to our recent post about ImpreSariO’s movie posters, reader Craig sends word of his own set of LEGO movie posters.

My favorite is The Simpsons Movie, proving once again that simplicity is often the best policy — that’s one round tile and 40% of a minifig torso assembly.

Here’s Reservoir Dogs and an Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull teaser poster:

Finally, another favorite, Jaws:
