LEGO Icons 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna: Grand Prix race-winner, or backmarker? [Review]

Following an exciting teaser, today, LEGO presents the next Technic licensed set, 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car. Becoming the first open-wheeler in nearly 10 years, the new McLaren’s 2022 F1 car is a massive surprise for all the racing fans. The set features 1,432 pieces and will be available starting March 1 for a hefty price of US $179.99 | CA $239.99 | 179,99 € | AU $279.99.

LEGO teases the new Technic McLaren F1 set [News]

The new upcoming LEGO Technic F1 model developed under the license of the McLaren Formula 1 racing team got teased today on social feeds. Although none of the cars — neither the actual F1 car nor the LEGO replica — can be seen, it’s safe to say the new LEGO product will be executed in a scale of at least 1:12. Considering the model’s size, we expect it to consist of no less than 1,000 pieces with a corresponding price tag.

The McLaren Senna that Technic supercar fans deserve

Recently, LEGO revealed a new Technic McLaren Senna set, but rather than make it the same 1:8 scale as the Lamborghini, Bugatti, or Porsche, it’s closer to the Corvette ZR1. This might disappoint some folks, like my brother, an avid collector of the Technic supercars. Not me. I don’t buy Technic sets generally and certainly would never drop $350 on one (or even $50, for that matter); that being said, I do love to look at them. That’s where builders like Jordan Langerak come in. Jordan has crafted a great likeness of the car, with huge intakes, the strange windows in the lower part of the doors, and all the rest.

This version blows the pants off the official LEGO set in every way, from size to shaping. It has functional butterfly doors, a 7-speed gearbox, a 4-wheel independent suspension, steering, adjustable wing, and whatever other bells and whistles one would expect from an official set, only it’s a custom creation. It might not be as cool as the tiny, awkwardly proportioned 6-wide Speed Champions Senna (which I do own), but for people who like Technic, it’s pretty neat. Did I mention that this is Jordan’s first custom build? Oh, and there’s a video, too:

LEGO Technic reveals new 42123 McLaren Senna GTR with 830 pieces [News]

The LEGO Group and McLaren Automotive continue their collaboration with yet another building set, 42123 McLaren Senna GTR. The new LEGO Technic model is an 830-piece replica of GTR modification of the world-famous hypercar in the blue and silver livery. The set will hit store shelves on January 1, 2021, with a price of US $49.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £44.99 | EU €49.99 | AU $89.99.

Judging by the size of the model, the new 42123 McLaren Senna GTR is in the same category with 42109 App-Controlled Top Gear Rally Car . However, since the McLaren has no motors or smart hubs, functionally, it is similar to the last year’s best-seller 42093 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

LEGO Speed Champions 75892 McLaren Senna [Review]

Having taken a a drive around Memory Lane with classic cars like the 1967 Mini Cooper S Rally and 1980s-era Ferrari F40, we turn to the thoroughly modern 75892 McLaren Senna. Rather than a sticker price of $837,000 (give or take another million dollars when finally auctioned off), this LEGO version of the European supercar retails for $14.99 (£12.99 in the UK and $19.99 in Canada), with 219 pieces and one minifig driver.

Quarter of a million brick LEGO McLaren 720S goes from zero to ABS in 2000 hours

Founded in the nineteen-sixties by Kiwi racecar designer, driver, engineer, inventor and all-around legend Bruce McLaren, the McLaren company is one of the most successful in Formula One championship history, winning a total of 8 constructors’ world championships and 12 drivers’ world championships. This year, McLaren released their latest car in the Super Series lineup, the gorgeous 720S, and this incredible LEGO replica is the centerpiece of McLaren’s stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Built by the team at Bright Bricks, the model comprises a staggering 280,000 bricks and took a team of six builders over 2000 hours.

The real car is powered by a 4.0 twin turbo V8 and can go from 0-60 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds and up to 124 mph in 7.8 seconds, with a top speed of 212 mph! However, the 1:1 scale model arrived at the Goodwood stand a bit more slowly, as festival visitors will help complete the model. They will need to place orange McLaren bricks in designated parts of the car, with the 720S reaching completion at the end of the Festival of Speed.

Duncan Titmarsh, the UK’s only LEGO Certified Professional and part of Bright Bricks, led the 720S build. The LEGO version weighs approximately 200kg more than the actual 720S, coming in at around 1.6 tonnes (1.8 US tons). The build features real wheels and a steel base but is otherwise almost entirely made of LEGO, including the brake pads, windscreen wipers, and windscreen. Some additional details like the badge and license plate have been provided by McLaren to finish the build nicely.McLaren 720S by Bright Bricks

The LEGO 720s will go on tour to other marketing events once it has been finished, so you may get a chance to see it in person.

LEGO announces new McLaren 720S Speed Champions set [News]

This morning LEGO revealed another supercar entry to the popular Speed Champions line. The McLaren 720S (set 75880) will be joining the likes of the Ford GT, Bugatti Chiron, and more when it’s available this June. The bright orange car also includes a car designer minifigure and a design desk for sketching out the cars of the future. We don’t have word yet on the price or part count, but it’s a safe bet it will be priced at $14.99 USD like the other standalone Speed Champions.
