Captain America vs. Hydra 76017 [Review]

Captain America vs. Hydra is one of the Lego Super Heroes sets released in March 2014. It retails for $19.99 and is available on Amazon. Below is a brief video review and my remarks regarding the set.

  • Very sturdy vehicle with suspension on the wheels
  • Includes 3 unique minifigures with new printing for Captain America
  • A modest selection of olive green parts

  • Low price per part ratio
  • Very simple build, no noteworthy techniques to highlight

This is a decent $20 Lego Super Heroes set. The battle vehicle is great for play, but among adult builders and collectors there’s little value to it other than the olive green parts and the minifigs. This is one of the easier sets I’ve built and takes very little time. Judging from trends on other older Super Heroes sets, I expect Amazon will have discount the set by about 25% after several months when fall is here.

“Cappin Fools” – Captain America’s M3 Half-track

Project Azazel continues his all out assault on TBB in 2013 with the M3 “Cappin Fools” WW2 era half-track. The model is great, with all the detail you would expect from a builder of Mr. Project’s caliber, but the addition of America’s favorite eugenics experiment behind the .50 Cal really puts it over the top.

Fredo busts out Captain America

I always enjoy when a LEGO builder surprises me. As much as I love all of the mecha, sky-fi, and Vic Vipers that Fredoichi builds, he’s actually quite a diverse builder who’s been dabbling recently in medium-scale sculptures. His latest is an interesting bust of Captain America.

Fredo accomplishes some of the detail with stickers, and says, “Stickering took more time than the actual build.” If the result looks this great, who am I to quibble with such non-purist ways?

LEGO gets Marvel Comics superhero license [News]

With the DC Comics license fresh off the press, reports have also surfaced that LEGO has also obtained a Marvel license. Some low quality pics appear here.

EDIT: Mariann Asanuma (Model Gal) has much better pics in her photostream including some strange Hero Factory/Superhero hybrids.

From StitchKingdom.com:

The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie, and X-Men and Spider-Man classic characters. The LEGO Marvel’s The Avengers movie line brings such ever popular Marvel characters as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki and Black Widow to LEGO minifigure form. The LEGO X-Men collection includes minifigure comic versions of Wolverine, Magneto, Nick Fury and Deadpool, while the LEGO Spider-Man sets offer minifigure comic versions of Spider-Man, and Doctor Octopus. The first buildable characters in the LEGO SUPER HEROES collection are highlighted by Captain America, The Hulk and Iron Man. Select figures will be unveiled in the LEGO booth (#2829) during Comic-Con International at the San Diego Convention Center July 21-24.

“Our partnership with Marvel helps us continue to deliver some of the best and most constructible Super Hero stories of all time,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “We’re thrilled to partner with Marvel to create creative, constructive play sets for builders, fans and collectors alike.”
