Kris Kelvin rebuilds 6276 Eldorado Fortress for the modern age

6276 Eldorado Fortress is one of those classic LEGO Pirates sets that we’ve grown to love over the years. Released 20 years ago, the set arrived in the phase when my parents thought I should give Technic a try instead of all those sets marked “Ages 7-12″.
Kris Kelvin applies modern techniques and uses current LEGO [...]

Sailing the Spanish Main aboard Nuestra Señora de la Concepción

Tom Jacobs (Bonaparte) and Rick Bewier (Captain Green Hair) have collaborated to bring the world this gorgeous Spanish galleon, the Nuestra Señora de la Concepción.

Rather than paper or existing LEGO sails, the ship uses real canvas, complete with sewn seams. I also love the checkered patterns on the hull.

See all the photos on Classic-Pirates.com or [...]

Eldorado Fortress Redux by Kris Kelvin
Once again I find myself with more neat stuff to blog and no time to do it all justice. At least I added names this time. Does anyone else find the new version of flickr really frustrating for obtaining image [...]

Jacked up gorilla ride

I’ve been having nostalgic interest in old and short-lived themes, so it was nice to see this this Islander chief on his gorilla steed. I especially like how Ed captures the beefiness of the arms and the curve of the knuckles on the gorilla.

Sorry for the image quality, it’s to do with my linking, [...]

Win 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar in the FC Seed Part Challenge [Contest]

Sorry folks, we won’t be getting 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar here in North America. That decision was apparently made before the whole Castle Advent Calendar drama last year.
Fortunately, the Forbidden Cove October Seed Part Challenge gives you a way to win one — for free!

Ship in a bottle

Matt Armstrong (Monsterbrick) has found a great use for all those empty x-pods. I’m sure I’m not the only person with a stack of pods that runs from floor to ceiling and then starts over, right? He’s done an elegant job of building a ship into a series of pods to make a [...]

LEGO to discontinue Pirates line [News]

A few days ago, Andrew reported that the Pirate Advent Calendar would not be available in North America. Now we find out that the entire Pirate line will be discontinued by the middle of 2010. This is not to say that it won’t be back, but there are currently no plans for new [...]

Dear LEGO: We want 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar!

It’s that time of the year again, LEGO fans. In what I hope does not become an annual tradition, we’ve received confirmation from LEGO that this year’s non-City advent calendar, 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar, will not be made available in the United States.

The success of our campaign to get 7979 Castle Advent Calendar [...]

Which One’s Cliff

Mr. Brick combines good sculpting, novel techniques and a lot of attention to detail to make the excellent cliff-side diorama of Grimmhavn. The wave techniques in the sea and use of multiple angles really bring an extra air of realism to the display.
Thanks to Klocki for bringing this to my attention.

Space pirates have never been so classy

I’ve seen a bunch of space pirate spaceships, but never one that looks like an old-schooled pirate ship as made by Wes Pitter. The sails on this vessel are quite a novelty. You may be wondering, how does one walk the plank on a ship in space? According to the builder, “all the captain had [...]

Terror of the Radio Waves!

Rod Gillies has set sail with this hilarious vignette. I adore those little ships….

Thanks to Johan for the sighting.

What goes around, comes around

This incredible Brickfilm by pe668 has some of the smoothest animation I’ve seen in a very long time. Check out “Cyclic“.

Thanks to Caylin for the heads up!

LEGO Pirates tic tac toe

A new set has appeared on LEGO Shop at Home: LEGO Pirates Tic Tac Toe
! It’s not up for sale yet, but we suspect it soon will be. Hopefully the cost will not exceed that of the previous Castle tic tac toe at $14.99, and 10 figures would make for a great battle pack.

LEGO Foosball: Pirate vs. Castle!

Billy McDill brings his ‘A’ game to town with this classic confrontation.

Impending swim

This action-packed vignette by Harry Russell (Karrde) has so many neat expressions captured. He built this to showcase his new BrickArms rapier.

Also impressive to pack seven minifigs into about a quarter of the plate while still conveying a sense of motion.

Ben lights one up!

Ben Ellermann brought some fire to the Pirate layout at BrickWorld this year. This light-up volcano is one of my favorite recent LEGO creations. I may have to figure out a way to incorporate this technique myself. After all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
