After the storm, indeed.

Lolas has done an excellent job capture the simple chaos after the storm, complete with tree roots, unintentional swimming sessions, and general mayhem.

I’m not totally sure how I missed the rest of his phenomenal creations, but I highly recommend taking a moment to check out the rest of his page. He’s got some GREAT [...]

Stirring the pot

I like all the simple clever techniques and the sheer range of elements used by Michael Jasper to make this little scene of Miraculix Panoramix brewing a potion. Lots of “What is that?” and “How did he do that?” to keep the eye entertained.

Via Classic-Castle.

Japanese Chokutō

Ken Robichaud built this lovely Chokutō for the Classic Castle Weapons Challenge. I love that engraving on the blade.

Apparently it’s a grim sort of place.

But I like it. I’m rather odd that way though. Behold Grimmhavn, by Mr. Brick. It’s a nice place to visit and I would like to live there…

Monthly Build Challenge on Classic Castle: Medieval Weapons

Hey, all you lurking Castle Lovers out there, I will be hosting a monthly build challenge on Classic Castle. The first challenge is life-size Medieval Weapons. No other rules. That’s right. No rules. So give it whirl, hop over there, and show us what you can do.
Here’s an example, to [...]

Boilerplate & Beyond Vol. 1: Have smoker will travel – Keith Goldman interviews Anthony Sava

We’re excited to have LEGO icon Keith Goldman conducting several interviews for us with fellow LEGO fans. Take it away, Keith!
This week’s builder is Tony “SavaTheAggie” Sava, who broke onto the scene the same time as I did, which automatically makes him interesting because he had a front row seat for my meteoric rise in [...]

The terror of Colorado Boulevard

Jarek (Jerac) combines his car building skills with a distinctly Castle aesthetic, for a unique race car with an even more unique driver and her unprecedented pet:

I don’t want to know what sort of fuel is in those yellow canisters…

What the Death Star looks like as a floating rock

Barney Main (SlyOwl) knows our soft spot when he built his entry for the Time Twisters Contest. The association with 10188 Death Star is so obvious and hilarious that you don’t even need to know the rules of the contest to predict this as a likely winner.

A castle in the modern day

Most major Lego castles, with the exception of Hrothingas, haven’t been open to tourism. Now, Castle Terezcak by legacek is open to visitors. But please, no graffiti on the walls.

I love the train tunnel cutting through the rocky mountain on which the castle is firmly planted. The use of bley and old gray on the [...]

Twisted? Most certainly.

There are some fantastic entries coming in, for Classic-Castle’s Time Twisters contest. For a brief re-cap, the idea is take an existing set, and turn your wayback machine a few centuries…or in this case, switch your “fantasy worlds” entirely!
Rod Gillies weighs in with his Twisted AT-AT:

A tribute to the King of Pop-Ups

Nathan Sawaya has created a gorgeous tribute to Waldo H. Hunt, the King of Pop-Up Books. By the way, this is also Nathan’s first castle.

Thanks to Bruce for pointing this out on Classic-Castle.

LEGO Pixar, Kingdoms, World Racers – 2010 sets at Canadian Toy Fair [News]

Once again stealing the New York Toy Fair’s thunder, the first publicly available photos (read: not stolen or leaked) of late 2010 LEGO sets come from the Canadian Toy & Hobby Fair, via CTV tech reporter Kris Abel.
Of particular note for LEGO Castle fans is the new Kingdoms theme.

Check out Kris’ main post for links [...]

The Time Twisters Contest [News]

Two members of Classic Castle, Aliencat and Bluesecrets, are putting on something called “The Time Twisters Contest“. I know you are wondering if this has something to do with that bizarre theme from the ’90s. The answer is ‘No’.
They want you to “medievalize” an official Lego set….any official Lego set. Here is [...]

Castle Falkengrund

Mr. Brick must know that I’m a sucker for medieval snow scenes….

Colossal Castle Contest Winners Announced! [News]

The Classic-Castle Admins have finished the judging and announced the results! Check out the winners. There are some excellent castle creations there. If you need more Castle goodness, take a peek at all the entries. While there were less entries this year, the quality seems to continue to rise. I [...]

Stefan Hunts Dragons

Stefan (- 2×4 -) has built a fun little diorama of a heroic dragon hunter, on what is probably his last hunt. I love the sense of motion this scene evokes, with both the “dragon” and hunter poised in mid-air.
As Arthur C Clarke said, “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

St. Cadoc’s Church

Luke Watkins posted this fantastic church from the Medieval Life category from Classic-Castle’s CCCVII:

The details all around are just incredible. I love the stone look to the building itself. The shields around the base are simply fantastic and add a great sense of completion to the creation.

Grand theft of animal roundup

First is an everyday sight for me, goat theft thwarted by a bull mountain troll. I’m not sure which of Steve Vargo’s (:jovian:) features I like the best, the goats, the troll, the nature bits, the action capture or the rail fence. I really don’t know.

The second is something I see slightly less frequently, [...]

Garrison at Pickerel Point

Stefan (busboy89) posted a fantastic fortification on a cliff, calling it Garrison at Pickerel Point. The whole creation is simply lovely, with all the rich detail. I personally adore the ivy on the cliff side.

Daniel Z’s Slot Weijenaard

Um. Yeah. Wow. And this is only one of about half a dozen phenomenal creations by Daniel Z “DNL” posted this past week for pretty much every category in the Colossal Castle Contest VII. This one stands out to me because brown is an unusual color for castle creations, castles of this tone and type [...]

This Wizard’s Castle is a balancing act

The architecture of mr. eugene’s Wizard’s Castle follows a daring design with the bulk of its weight balanced on three support stands. If that’s not already impressive, the castle boosts some elaborate designs such as the observation tower, not to mention having a fully detailed interior.

…and ’tis Thor who shall see to the task!

Classic-Castle member and customizer babyjawa posted a fantastic creation for the Custom Castle Figure portion of CCCVII: Thor!

BJ has a great eye for his custom figures, and Thor is no exception.

Feast of Fools!

If you’re still working on your last-minute entries into Classic-Castle’s CCCVII, you should know you’ve got 3 hours until the deadline (11:59pm EST).
With that said, there have been some excellent entries this year–I don’t envy the judges, since they’ve got the hard job.
Flickr user 2 Much Caffeine has submitted another fantastic creation: Feast of [...]

lugpol’s impending LEGO domination

Their 1-step plan is apparently to have their members build mindbogglingly awesome stuff, again and again and again. Really, I want to know how the creations posted online with the little lugpol logo are so consistently great.
crises-crs‘ Zero to Hero – part 1: Winter

Great by itself, but in parts 2 and 3, he subtly changes [...]

Sebastian Arts’ Scherpenheuvel Church

Sebastian Arts (Aliencat!) posted pictures of this church based on a real one in Sherpenheuvel, Belgium. Like any great creation there are a lot of different things to like, but for me it’s the basic color scheme and uneven wall texture.

He has more on his MOCpages, including fantastic rear and interior details.
