CubeDudes Invade!

Angus Maclane has been building like crazy lately. The craziness has manifested itself as CubeDudes, which appear to be famous characters with cubes for heads. They are adorable! He just posted oodles of these awesome little dudes. Click on the pictures to go to a gallery of related figures.

Legoland California hires 5 new Master Builders [News]

Legoland California just finished their hiring competition and selected 5 new Master Builders, as well as 4 Associate Builders!
Among the finalists are some very deserving builders, including several that will be familiar to Brothers Brick readers.
After participating in a routine job application process, finalists were subjected to a timed, two hour build-off, which [...]

LEGO Watchmen minifigs by Sir Nadroj

We’re not averse to highly customized minifigs here on The Brothers Brick, but I personally prefer a LEGO-only solution when it’s possible.
Jordan Schwartz (Sir Nadroj) shows us that Watchmen characters can be created using a mostly purist approach — with a little help from Photoshop for Dr. Manhattan:

See individual shots of Jordan’s Watchmen minifigs [...]

Beneath Gotham

In his explorations of the subway system of Gotham City Brent Wolke (thwaak) has uncovered a secret world: a world of subway racers. These are the cutest set of LEGOy things I’ve seen in ages.

I like LEGO zombies

Well, not in the sense that I want them to eat my minifigs’ brains (well, perhaps some of them), but in the sense that zombies make pretty much anything cooler.
The guys from The Big Toy Hut have put together a batch of minifigs inspired by the zombie megafigs by Andrew Bell:

While we’re at it, here [...]

Every Evil Genius needs a mini-sub

So Christophe Bongay built one. I love the cut-away aspect of this creation.

Chandler believes in Harvey Dent

Chandler (obxcrew) takes on Batman nemesis and former White Knight Harvey Dent in a series of five vignettes.
In his first vig, Chandler explores Harvey’s origins as Two-Face:

Each vignette includes great details and minifig customization, like the safe deposit boxes and two-face himself in this bank scene:

Check out all five vignettes in Chandler’s I Believe in [...]

LEGO Batman: The Video Game now available [News]

LEGO Batman: The Video Game was released this past Tuesday. I’d hoped to play the game and write a review, as I did for LEGO Indiana Jones: The Video Game, but I won’t have time to do that for a couple weeks.
McDonald’s has of course had Happy Meal toys inspired by the game available for [...]

Fire!

I’m loving sense of urgency in the this diorama by zgrredek. It has that wacky, silent movie feel. Almost the Keystone Cops turned fireman.

Those horses are swell, as well:

PrimalBots go Arctic

Rong Yiren has a style all his own and I’m a big fan of his Primal Bots. In this scene, he has captured a rare sighting of a polar race of the creatures and their ride.

Interview with LEGO Agents designer Matt Ashton [Interview]

It’s no secret that we here at The Brothers Brick love this year’s LEGO Agents sets — especially Andrew, who won’t shut up about them!
So we’re very pleased to bring you an interview with Matthew Ashton, Creative Director for LEGO Playthemes, and one of the set designers for the LEGO Agents theme.
The Brothers Brick: To [...]

Celebrating GO MINIMAN GO – “30 Years: The Story of the Minifigure”

David Pagano, Nate Burr and myself were all recently asked by the LEGO Company to make a brickfilm to celebrate the LEGO minifigure’s 30th birthday.  This is my contribution, 30 Years: The Story of the Minifigure.  How many historical figures/events can you name?

Don’t forget to check out GOMINIMANGO.com for more videos and a contest (details coming soon [...]

“GO MINIMAN GO” by David Pagano

David Pagano, along with Nate Burr and myself, were recently asked by the LEGO Company to make a brickfilm celebrating the LEGO minifigure’s 30th birthday.  David’s brickfilm is a romp through time and space, celebrating the best of the LEGO sets and minifigures over the past 30 years:

Don’t forget to check out GOMINIMANGO.com for more [...]

Pete Morris starfighter roundup for August 31, 2008

There’s always something overwhelming about coming back from vacation, a trip, or whatever and seeing 3,000 unread items in one’s RSS feeds. But Peter Morris makes slogging through all that worthwhile with a batch of fantastic starfighters from the past several weeks.
First up, a spacey vehicle for Batman that’s my undeniable favorite:

A trio of “generic” [...]

LEGO Batman gameplay footage and new screens from Kotaku & DESTRUCTOID[News]

I missed it initially, but Kotaku posted a fairly long video a couple weeks ago of gameplay footage from E3 of the forthcoming LEGO Batman video game. The video shows several scenes with playable characters that include Mr. Freeze, The Riddler, Catwoman, The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy.

More recently, DESTRUCTOID has a bunch of [...]

It’s a brand new day for Dr. Horrible

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity, Firefly, and now Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog — everything that Joss Whedon touches turns to gold.
Here’s my take on a scene from Act II of Dr. Horrible:

Go watch all three episodes for yourself on DrHorrible.com (before the end of the day today, though — they’ll be gone after midnight, July [...]

Wait. Who exactly let Keith in?

I’m extremely pleased to announce that Keith Goldman has joined The Brothers Brick as our resident Columnist.
Keith is one of those LEGO fans of near-mythical proportions. Having met Keith in person, I can report that he stands nine feet four inches tall (that’s twelve meters for you Canadians), and is able to levitate his [...]

Darth Vader has a tough go of it in Gotham City

Reader Chris McVeigh (Flickr) combines excellent photography with recent LEGO sets to tell a funny little story. Captioned “Trading Places,” Darth Vader trades places with Batman:

I think Batman got the better end of the deal.

Jordan’s Hellboy is the ultimate custom LEGO minifig

With a modified head piece and sideburns from Arealight, decals from Jared “Kaminoan” Burks, and a megagun from the newly relaunched BrickForge, this Hellboy minifig by Jordan Schwartz brings together elements from several LEGO customizers to create the ultimate custom minifig:

Here’s Red with the rest of the Hellboy crew:

Brent Waller releases Batman Tumbler instructions

We featured Brent Waller’s desert-camo Tumbler back in April, and now he’s released full instructions for the black version of his LEGO Batman Tumbler.

You can download the instructions from Brent’s site (4.5 MB PDF), or view the parts list and page-by-page instructions in HTML.

Attack of the Primal Bots!

Rong Yiren has continued his primal bot series with a couple of action-packed dioramas.
Primal Bot Melee:

Jabberwocky Surprise:

I’m loving these little guys.

Rolling through the blasted landscape with Horace Cheng

With everybody distracted by shiny Cave Racers, it seems the end of the world has been staved off for a while, or so it would seem from the dearth of decent ApocaLEGO lately.
Fortunately for us, Horace Cheng has taken his recent snowmobile design and added a bunch of stuff to make it zombie-proof:

Bonus Iron Man [...]

Monkey Man takes on Black Puma

It’s the oldest trick in the book. Simian superhero lures feline antihero in a high-speed chase down a city street. Hero places peel of yellow tropical fruit on the ground. Mayhem and hilarity ensue.
Jordan “SirNadroj” Schwartz puts Monkey Man in a slippery situation with “Monkey Man vs. Black Puma”:

Black Puma and his sweet ride are [...]

“You forgot one very important thing, mate…I’m Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Well, you can’t forget that with this incredible bust by Craig Stevens

He’s done another captain too!
