The Adventures of Maxwell and Pugsy

Peter Woodley has been building a unique universe for some adorable characters called Maxwell and Pugsy. Peter’s latest Maxwell and Pugsy creation is a treetop hangar, accompanied by a poem: As Matt Garvin says, Peter’s style is a “mix of fantasy, steampunk-ishness, with a healthy helping of whimsy.” I keep thinking “Pugsy” is missing an Continue reading →

Valve’s Portal in LEGO steampunk vignettes

Ever wonder what the game Portal would look like in LEGO with a Steampunk twist? Arkov shows us what he thinks. Check out the nifty steampunk turret. Are you still there?

Laputa ornithopter flaps to Sheeta’s rescue

The first LEGO creation that Jon Hall has posted to Flickr is a LEGO version of the ornithopter, or “flaptter”, from the Miyazaki film Laputa: Castle in the Sky: I love the shape, and the use of the clear canopies as wings is excellent. Thanks for the tip, Horace Cheng! Don’t miss Horace’s own Laputa Continue reading →

Walking Steampunk Mecha

Matt Hamann (Jaster) has built an adorable steampunk walker. It’s a six-legged tank, that would be a pretty decent creation, if it weren’t for one thing… it can walk! He’s motorized it, and it sort of toddles along the table. Check out the video. I just love the way it clomps around, it’s like a Continue reading →

O’Neill’s Midget Submarine is manned by actual midgets

Rod Gillies (2 Much Caffeine) tells us: The only Midget Submarine to see action was the “Little Pig”, captained by Jock “Stumpy” McGurk. In a daring incursion into the Vulgarian fjords, the small craft used its single Explosive Harpoon to sink the battleship “Dragon”, bringing an abrupt end to Vulgarian naval ambitions in the Baltic. The Pony Express goes airborne

Brent (thwaak) has built what looks like a flying submarine for the Pony Express. I love the sort of whimsy that can go into a steampunk creation, and this is a great example. It even has a periscope! The mix of colors on the hull is a nice touch too, it looks like a mix Continue reading →

SlyOwl’s steamy battle scene even includes a steampunk Chinook chopper

This steampunk battle scene by SlyOwl has it all — floating rock, brick-built smoke, cool splash effects, and even a steampunk Chinook helicopter. See more photos on Brickshelf.

The Land Clipper steams toward Dr. Konfound’s demise

Uspez Morbo has recreated Mission 6: Mobile Command Center in steampunk form with his awesome Land Clipper. Check out the tires on the front, and is that a brick-built Lewis gun? Sweet. The Land Clipper can deploy a runabout called the Triple Dasher: More pics on Flickr.

LEGO steampunkery from all over

The Agents of the Imperial Crown contest is certainly contributing to an uptick in the number of LEGO steampunk creations I’m seeing. Here’s a quick roundup. V&A Steamworks goes airborne aboard HMS Earl Grey: Rod Gillies (2 Much Caffeine) takes steampunk to China and Prussia: Jason “JasBrick” has been posting awesome custom steampunk minifigs for Continue reading →

The Iron Guppy pacifies the unruly West

Victor Vitale takes steampunk into the Old West with this teeny tiny airship airboat piloted by a pair of U.S. cavalry soldiers.

LEGO Steampunk Cylon clanks and chugs toward humanity’s demise

Cartoonist Mark Anderson (Flickr) combines two things we love — LEGO steampunk and Battlestar Galactica — for one of the most original mashups we’ve seen in a while.

Steampunk Roundup

There’s been a barrel-full of quality Steampunk creations lately. Many are entries in the Agents of the Imperial Crown contest, but some aren’t. It doesn’t matter, they are all awesome! Black Valve by crises Steam Bike I by Zack FlyCycle by Barbara Marassi & Sopwith Hurricane by Rod Gillies

Colorful steampunk by draugaer

Like ApocaLEGO, steampunk creations have a fairly standard color scheme. You see brown, black, and gray and it’s safe to assume, “Oh. That’s steampunk (or ApocaLEGO).” Draugaer illustrates that the Victorians who inspired our conception of steampunk probably had a can or two of paint lying around…

FRS Shakespeare, SlyOwl’s Imperial Lightning-Catcher

It’s been a while since we’ve featured a floating rock, so SlyOwl‘s ship — the FRS Shakespeare — came as a very pleasant surprise. The fact that it flies around catching lightning makes it that much cooler.

The Steamviper brings it

Personally, I’m a bit tired of the BSG Viper fad, but I had to make an exception here. V&A Steamworks cruises in with a Steampunk Viper and its full of nifty win. Check out those Duplo Pirate Pistols, Bionicle pieces and Harry Potter pieces! This thing is loaded with stuff that should never be in Continue reading →
