The Darque Pontiff takes to the skies!

His Evilness Pontiff Paeyn of the Darque Empire aloft in his sky sled, as captured for posterity by Fedde (aka cthulthu).
If this building trend keeps up, we may need to add a whole new category for all these magical flying contraptions! (Steampunk+Castle for now, and mental note to think about this later…)

News: Don and dW’s Steam-Wars contest on FBTB

Don Solo and dWhisper on FBTB Forums have started an interesting contest that should generate some very cool LEGO creations. The idea is simple: Recreate any Star Wars vehicle in a steampunk style.
As a (small) example of the sort of design the judges are going for, Don posted this adorable little steampunk R2-D2:

I can’t wait [...]

The secret of the Zephyr

Can you spot the very special way in which Tim Zarki’s flyer is powered?

The King’s Cloud by Mark Stafford

The CCCV entries just keep pouring in. Mark Stafford’s entry is a fantastical flying ship in golds and blues. There are so many Bionicle parts in this creation that I think it deserves to be in the “Bionicle” category.

Fireboy gets an upgraded ride

Although I’d bookmarked his character Fireboy’s previous vehicle to blog later, Brent was unsatisfied with it. I’ll definitely agree that the new ship is indeed much improved. I love the angled flames and the awning over the cockpit.

Explora Walker by Mark Stafford

Mark Stafford’s latest steampunk creation proves that steampunk doesn’t have to be all browns and grays.

How do they fly? Who cares — it’s magic!

Brent is at it again — sending impossible contraptions aloft. The capes he used at the base of the spines on his Widow (above) are an interesting touch, and the steering apparatus on the two Thorns on the Wind (below) intrigue me…

Tim Zarki’s Dawn Shredder

I suspect that Tim Zarki’s sky pirates aren’t likely to pick up stray children from another world…

Sky-fishing with Owen Vanderbilt

I can’t imagine that the racket Jehkay’s latest sky-fi vehicle causes wouldn’t scare away all the fish, but that didn’t stop Mr. Vanderbilt from trying.
While you’re checking out his photostream, why not stop by to see his lineup of “Sentai” mecha?

Brent’s Harmonious Juncture

Following his fantastic (in both senses of the word) sky ships featured here a couple weeks ago, Brent has posted two more wildly original flying vehicles.
Harmonium:

Juncture:

Brent’s skies are full of Magic

As a fan just coming out of his “dark age,” Brent shows that it’s not the size of your collection that matters, but the size of your imagination. He’s been working on some interesting flying vehicles, including Song of Polina (above) and Hornfels Wealth (below).

A month of steampunk from Kevoh

I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin “Kevoh” Blocksidge at BrickCon in October, where his “Fingobbins Village” floating rock won a well-deserved “Best Steampunk” award:

I waited patiently for him to announce his beautiful creation online, but somehow missed it a month ago. For those who missed it elsewhere, I think it was worth the [...]

Behold the SteamWalker!

On Brickshelf, he goes by Wintermute, on Flickr he is Onosendai2600. Whichever you prefer, Andrew Lee builds cool things. Take a gander at his latest.

Kaitimar’s Steam Tractor

Kaitimar put this adorable tractor in his steampunk folder, but I swear I’ve seen this at a county fair…

Jehkay takes to the skies

Jehkay’s skyboat doesn’t quite fit the conventional patterns for what we call “steampunk” or “post-apoc” — and that’s precisely why I love this little flying bucket of bolts.

A whole heap of Steampunkery…

Kaitimar has been building some rather interesting Steampunk creations lately. They definitely have a unique look. But don’t take my word, see for yourself…

BrickCon 2007 Day 2 Report

Photos from day 2 are starting to show up from the following people:

Lonnon Foster
Joe Meno
me

Here’s what I did today:
9:00 A.M.
LEGO Store Pick-a-Brick at the event venue included large bins of minifig parts (10 pieces for $5). I picked up several more yellow Slave Leia minifigs, along with torsos from the green Scout Trooper torso, among [...]

Calloused Boxer by Zach Clapsadle

This larger-than-minifig-scale steampunk racer by Zach Clapsadle is just begging to be picked up and swooshed around the room with very loud vrooming noises.
