Bridge from ‘Singularity Sky’

I’m a huge fan of Charles Stross’ books and short stories and am particularly fond of the anachronistic starship in Singularity Sky. Something about the combination of brass speaking tubes and faster-than-light drives just tickles me in all the right places. This is my attempt to do some vague amount of justice to the bridge [...]

StarCraft Terran battlecruiser

Brickshelf user vana treats us to an amazingly designed and photographed UCS scale Terran battlecuiser from the game StarCraft. The traditional greebles on studs technique prevails once again, making the model extra detailed.

BattleTech Battlemaster mecha by Andrew Lee

Andrew Lee takes his inspiration from an old BattleTech novel’s cover for his latest mecha. I love Andrew’s use of the LEGO Agents stickers:

Since we’re rifling through Andrew’s photos looking for stuff to blog, here’s a bonus microspace warship, Yen-lo-wang — one “bad mother”:

Bram Lambrecht proves that Cylons are indeed 3vil

To be perfectly honest, I’ve enjoyed the design aesthetic of the new Battlestar Galactica more lately than the story lines. Oh well. So when Bram Lambrecht combined the Cylon Raider with little plastic bricks from Denmark in 3vil livery, I was rather pleased:

Crazy racer from Nnenn

Nnenn’s latest work is highly original, featuring a string of five engines strapped to a glider. Check out this whimsical racer called the The Balkeesa.

Cyber-troll eats spacemen for breakfast

Brendan Mauro puts a new twist to the LEGO troll figure, making it a cyber-troll with robot arm, eyepiece, and a sharp mechanical hand - all the better to crush those “stoopid space mans.”

Greeble sandwich

Mark Kelso’s latest build is a greeble sandwich called The Aussie-Saucer, featuring the the Australian minifig Sig Ocean Figgy, a.k.a Shannon Ocean’s sigfig. Check out the interior controls, and spot the iPod.

It Goes Fast

Otto (.Otto) presents this very nifty Dunebuggy. It features a lot of interesting (and probably weak) connections and Otto’s usual stripped back stylings. It also goes fast.

Colonial Voyager - “city in the stars”

Catsy from Classic Space creates a microscale starship designed to be “a self-sustaining city in the stars,” complete with the remarkable use of the Bionicle half dome piece as a biodome on this ship. Stay tuned to Catsy’s gallery for more edited photos of this increadible and detailed creation.

Nnenn goes classic

Like other talented, prolific builders, we can’t possibly post everything nnenn builds. It’s not that everything he builds blends together, no! But occasionally, something stands out, like this lovely little racer in Classic Space colors:

Of course, nnenn is also up to his usual tricks — two excellent fighters in red and green:

DARKspawn enters the void of microspace

Multi-theme master Aaron Andrews tries his hand at a microscale space creation:

With a great color scheme and appropriate asymmetry, I’d have to say that Aaron’s first foray into microspace is a rip-roaring success.

Deeper into Planet Nidoria with Chrispockster

The intrepid retro-space astronauts of Chrispockster’s exploratory crew continue to encounter fascinating residents of the Planet Nidoria. Nidorians are of course famous for their bright green thoroughbred mounts (that’s a Bionicle creature put to excellent use):

The crew itself has recently received an upgrade, accompanied by Robbie the Robot:

M577 Aliens APC by Havoc

Aliens remains one of my favorite sci-fi movies, in large part because of the awesome (though mostly futile) hardware the Colonial Marines throw at the aliens. Havoc’s version of the M577 APC is chock full of awesome:

This bad boy even has a full interior:

The Aliens movies have spawned quite a few [...]

AG-89 Ghost fighter by dasnewten

Rob presents a small, brilliantly designed fighter:

The custom stickers add great detail to an already excellent model reminiscent of World War II fighters.

Photo review of new BrickForge accessories for 2008 [Review]

Those of you who were paying close attention to our coverage of BrickWorld 2008 probably noticed references to and pictures of the latest BrickForge accessories.
Thanks to Nannan and the magic of the United States Postal Service, here’s my review of the new items BrickForge will be releasing soon. In general, I’ll try to avoid repeating [...]

Exploring planet Nidoria

Flickr user Chrispockster makes a diorama depicting a retro space landing on the fictional planet Nidoria. Some highlights include the organic alient plant life and the interesting color choice for the planet’s surface, which I think might just be plain yellow shaded dark during the photography process. The final result looks great.

Neo-Classic Space LL-497 by Peter Reid

Peter Reid’s series of Neo-Classic Space vehicles evoke simultaneous feelings of awe, jealousy, and nostalgia.
For Pete’s latest, he gives 497 Galaxy Explorer the contemporary treatment:

Pete’s use of modern bricks and current building techniques, applied to the shapes and colors of LEGO from the Classic Space era, results in creations that combine the best of both [...]

Juggernaut Fortress microship

Jerak uses brown in his most recent creation to construct a heavily armed micro spaceship called the Juggernaut Fortress, based off the Clairconctlar Pinnacle. It is worth checking out the bottom of the ship, equally full of details as the top and in my opinion wouldn’t look so awkward to be cruising upside down.
